After facing reality and realizing that we went a little overboard with Christmas, DH and I sat down last night and looked at our budget. We had planned to spend 4 nights Fort Wilderness next week. We realized that we really shouldn't.

Today is the 5 day reservation widow. I stared at my phone for an hour before I finally picked it up and made the call.

RESERVATION CANCELLED.:headache:

Be proud of yourself!!
We just went through a similar situation here. My husband had to take a huge pay cut to keep his job in September. We had our December trip booked. The thought of canceling killed me so, I asked my dad if we could give the me the balance of what was due for the trip to the kids (9,5 and 5) for Christmas. (long story short I have never asked my family for money EVER, but my brother who makes way more than my hubby with no kids no house etc. is constantly bailed out by dad, I suspect a gambling problem. I digress) Anyway dad was thrilled to help and also gave us spending money. Very generous! But I could not shake the guilt. I felt like we were doing something wrong the whole trip. I literally had a pit in my stomach the whole time. It was a waste for me anyway, at least the kids had fun but my husband and I both agreed it was a big mistake and never again until we can pay for it 100% ourselves.

Bottom line is you did the right thing and will feel better about it in the long run! You will truly enjoy your trip when you do decide to go, no guilt just fun!!!!:thumbsup2

Yeah, being an adult DOES suck! I was given a fantastic award at work this year with a $2500 bonus attached! My initial thought was an impromptu trip somewhere - maybe WDW but maybe somewhere else. But then I remembered that annoying credit card bill.

Yup, I paid off the CC bill and put the rest towards house repairs (see my non-ticker below). But I did set aside $100 for clothes ... a special treat for me.

It may suck now but the OPs are right, you will feel better soon enough.

 I know just how you feel! Being responsible really stinks sometimes, but in the long run, I'm sure you'll feel better about your decision. Christmas 2011 only happened once, but WDW will be around for awhile!

We just had to cancel our March Disney cruise because it interfered with my DH's college schedule. One of the classes only meets three Saturdays during the semester, and he has to be in class on the day the cruise leaves. We also decided that it would be better to use five of his Spring Break days (from work) to count toward the nine days of work he'll need to miss for observations. It was hard to send the cancellation email, but we can always reschedule later.

Know where you're coming from. Just had to cancel our DCL cruise for June. HS 30th reunion is at end of month, and I just couldn't see how we could do both.

Personally I would always pick the cruise over a reunion. Those things are depressing.

We are paying off a CC too instead of going 2012 - we will be going 2013 but that is for the boys as soon as we get back they are going to a group home - I hate them growing up too but it will be for the best (can't decided if I want the trip in 2013 to hurry up & get here or not)

Our economy needs more responsible people like you. You will be happy that you did this in just a few months time.

OP: I've been in your shoes....over the past 10 years there were 2 instances where I had to call and cancel our trip. :sad1: It was the hardest thing for me to do, and it sucked, but give it time and soon you'll feel better about it.

Hugs to you. We cancelled our October trip and rescheduled for April. It broke my heart and I still "miss" that trip. I am determined to make the April trip wonderful! Lots of PD to you for a ticker soon.

I know it's hard! Thanks for setting a good example for me. :goodvibes I've got some "choices" to make coming up.

Sorry you had to cancel, but you made the right (responsible) decision! Reward yourself by starting to think about when you can try for another trip.
