Being Damp

Hi

I was just reading an article about impromptu activities at WDW and one that came up were the fountains at both Downtown Disney and Epcot - usually my DD begs to go in them and I hurry her along. But upon reading the article I realised that I was turning into my mother and that just won't do.

So - my question is, DD goes off to play in the fountains, and will subsequently get wet.

How do we get back to the hotel? Will the bus take you if you're damp? (obviously I'd dry her off as much as I possibly could?) Could I make her stand the entire way, or perch on my knee so she doesn't make the seat damp?

Help... it's causing me stress. Lol

For a small child, we would just bring a change of clothes with us to the parks. (We would do this for little ones even if there wasn't any splash areas.) If you don't want to carry the extra clothes around, put them in a locker when you arrive at the park.

Why not just bring a change of clothes for her? Put the wet clothes in a plastic bag that you have brought for that purpose. Have a pair of flip flops for her to slip on before hitting the water.

Don't stress! Yes, of course the bus will take you back if you are damp! Remember, buses transport people to the water parks and it rains quite often in WDW, so there are damp people on the buses all the time! Not to mention damp, sweaty people as well. My DS loves the fountains and spray things. He doesn't care if he walks around wet. If I know we are going on a water ride at a park, I sometimes pack him an extra set of clothes in a ziplock bag and/or a rain poncho to wear on the ride. This past trip, he stood directly under the spray in the playground in DHS and got pretty wet. It was so hot, though, he was completely dry by the time we left the park. Don't worry!

I just have my kids where lighter fabric clothes and sandles and play in them in the middle of the day when it's hot. They are usually mostly dry by the time we go to the bus's

We've ridden Kali River Rapids at the end of an AK day and then gotten on the bus. Believe me, we were more than "damp"! And certainly weren't the only ones either. People get rained on, come from the water parks, ride the wet rides, jump in fountains, are just plain sweaty after a long day in the sun. If they didn't let "damp" people on the buses, they'd be mostly empty in August!

Thanks all.

Normally, I would pack a change of clothes if we were specifically going on water rides, but as this is an impromptu thing I wouldn't necessarily have them on me.

She's normally in cotton/quick drying clothes anyway, so fingers crossed it would be ok.

Well, since you're already planning in advance for this impromptu activity, just pack a spare set of clothes. I've never regretted bringing extra clothes but I always regret NOT bringing them if needed ;)

If you are planning on her getting wet, it isn't "impromptu". Bring an extra set of clothes.

our DD loved those water spots so much when she was little! Often I'd pack a bathing suit and change her into it and just let her get totally soaked. We'd also bring along a towel - dry her off - put the bathing suit into a Ziploc and off we'd go.

@JanaDee I am not planning... it was just a maybe. Thus the impromptu - she may not even want to play in the fountains this year, thus the question would the buses take you if you were damp. She is 9 now and too cool for most things, so I am guessing that fountain jumping won't be on her list of priorities. However, that said, she does love Disney.

You are considering this ahead of time, and that is preplanning. Toss some clothes in a ziptop into the backpack for all the park days and that way you are ready should the moment present itself. I would just have the clothes be for after, to really allow for spontaneity. Don't forget socks and shoes and underwear.

Funnily enough - we had to buy an extra shirt at the gift shop for my 13 year old because someone spilt a drink on her. It is NEVER a bad idea to bring a change of clothes - any age, any plans. If there's a CHANCE you're going to do an activity that would necessitate a change of clothes, bring them.

If you're even considering it, I would go with everyone else and bring a change of clothes for anyone that might venture into the water... Or you could end up like me, at 3:45 PM having to go from Casey Jr's Splash & Soak, to the front gate, on a bus to Boardwalk Villas, up the elevator, grab two sets of clothes, back down, bus back to MK monorail to Contemporary and change two wet kids all before a 5:30 PM Chef Mickey reservation!!!! It was almost an hour round trip from when I left my wife and boys until I met up with them at Chef Mickey. Long but relaxing and enjoyable none the less! :yay:

:thumbsup2 I still pack a change of clothes for my two kids (12 & 10 on our last trip) - in case of something like this or if by chance one of them gets sick. I would hate to have them sitting around in dirty clothes even while heading back to the resort. Plus if it's just a quick change they need - I wouldn't want to have to travel back to the resort. What a waste of precious Disney fun time! I'd rather just carry it in our bag. I fold the clothes until they fit in a gallon zip top bag and press out all the extra air. This takes up very little space in our backpack and I like knowing I've got it covered- just in case.

I don't know if this has been mentioned or not, but maybe pack an extra set of clothes. :rolleyes1

I kid, I kid.

I'd let her get wet and get on the bus wet. The bus is plastic and rubber so you're not ruining anything, and it's not rude to sit down wet. As others have said, happens all the time.

We bring extra clothes and a gallon size zip lock bag. Even though DD is almost 5 and I never carry extra clothes for her at home, I always bring two sets of extra clothes into the parks for this very reason. The bus will carry you if you are wet, but my DD would complain the entire ride. It is just easier to bring clothes.

Yes they well. Or many folks would be abandoned when if rains. And there would not bus service to TL or BB.

We would often bring a change if clothes for water play when we let them play with the water features.

The water at the toy store isn't a big deal. My kids just roam damp.

The only thing I change is the shoes, since they normally wear sneakers I bring flip flops with us for water play
