Being Canadian on DIS

So there I was on another DIS forum reading about breakfasts at Disney and one poster mentioned how it’s difficult to get an American breakfast. Out of curiosity I asked what an American breakfast is as I thought maybe this was something I had never heard of. The reply was that it’s at least one meat, eggs and home fries, sometimes with pancakes or French toast. Thinking “well isn’t that just a breakfast - that’s not necessarily American” my Canadianism asserted itself and I kindly thanked the poster for the info and almost apologized for not knowing what it was.

We were stuck in the usual unloading log jam at the end of Splash Mountain last week. As the boat coming up behind us bumped into us a voice called out "Sorry". I commented that it must be a Canadian Tourist, which got a bit of a laugh in our boat.

Lat year we were waiting to get on the raft to go to Tom's island and i backed into someone at the same time they were backing into me, we both said "Oh sorry" and then stopped dead as we stared at each other's Canada 150 pin ... not only both CDN but from the SAME CITY!

Regarding the whole breakfast thing ... Canadian Bacon ... uhm we call it back bacon or peameal (or in this household a throw back to a small misunderstanding, "female bacon") OH and how about American "cheese" uhm NOPE isn't that orange plastic??

Yeah I don’t get the American cheese thing at all - is it like cheez whiz or kraft singles? I’m not a fan of those either (with the one exception of on a cheeseburger l, and even then only if there’s no real cheese)

To be fair "American cheese" sounds better than "processed cheese slice".

If we're trading stories, last time I was at Magic Kingdom it was 2 days after what is now known as The Bat Flip happened.

I was wearing my Blue Jays cap and any time we encountered another person wearing a Jays cap there were acknowledgements (aka the 'sup? nod), high fives, and sometimes imitation bat flips.

And no apologies to the people around us.

(I know, I should turn in my passport.)

Actually, most of the above I can take in stride, translate food names, etc. What threw me completely off recently was the DIS thread about where to store your guns while you're in the parks... :eep:

Wait....what?!?! Wow that’s got to be the most mind boggling thing I’ve heard. But at least people are thinking about gun storage and not just bringing them into the parks.

Yup, Kraft Singles, ugh. My husband buys it, loves the way it melts I tell him to keep it off my stuff!

Having lived in Texas, I can say that it's "no", and it's actually less people than you think.

Now the defense of the Second Amendment (or at least that one part of the Second Amendment), there's a lot of people. But they don't all carry guns.

It’s scary to think of sitting in Starbucks and everyone around you has a gun.

I was quite freaked out while in Florida last year knowing how people carry guns. I was not worried when we were in the parks...but once we were outside and especially when we were getting ready to hit our cruise ship...I have to admit...it totally freaked me out.
The thought of me doing another trip to the US still scares me for that reason. It won't stop me, but it will have me on high alert and very aware of my surroundings.

I didn't pick up any discernible accent so I assumed they were probably Canadian. And yeah, after all the pastries that were on our platter that morning, I can see how he thought that.

In Quebec, we call that breakfast "dejeuner de la construction". It translate to "Construction Worker Breakfast" and while its not my favorite, lots of people enjoy it at every time of the day.

Speaking of breakfast, I love my Steak n Eggs: is there any places at WDW that serve a decent Steak n Eggs breakfast? I was shocked to discover a great place at Pearson Airport. In the Domestic section of Terminal 1, there is the Mill St. Brewery and they offer a nice Flat Iron Steak served with two eggs and all the trimmings for 21$. Very tasty and perfect when you've been up all night.

Speaking of breakfast, I love my Steak n Eggs: is there any places at WDW that serve a decent Steak n Eggs breakfast?

While watching hours of Disney food videos on YouTube, I recall something about a steak and eggs breakfast at Cinderella's Royal Table

Definitely agree about not being able to stop doing it. I suppose it's not a bad thing, but on our last trip this March, I wish I wasn't so Canadian. People were noticeably rude to everyone. I hate to be that person, but I remembered when those visiting WDW was a lot more polite and considerate. This is the main reason why we are doing other things now...still Disney of course , but more through DCL, or Aulani or Vero...less WDW...

Okay, should we wear our Blue Jays or Raptors hats or not. When we went last year some people were really super enthusiastic about Canada, but there were a few that were kind of negative about us, is it better to just blend in and pretend to be American. We never seem to meet any Canucks when we are there.

To be honest, as a sportsball fan I’ve no issue showing which teams I support. And I think other sports fans get it. You might get some good natured ribbing over it, but that’s about all.

I’ll probably be packing a Jays cap, an Expos cap and a “We The North” shirt for certain. Would wear my Houston Texans jersey as well but that thing is not breathable (thanks Nike).
