Beignets?

Nope. Just the ones we had at POFQ, but they were not traditional either. There are lots and lots of videos on YouTube of Cafe Du Monde. Many, many will show people eating the beignets but I had to search for one that actually showed the beignet and once a bite was out of it. This video link around 1 minute will show you the inside of a beignet, they are not hollow, unless your eating them at WDW, as I reported above.

Actually, yes, beignets are 'mostly' hollow. I've eaten more than I want to think about at Cafe du Monde in the French Quarter. I'm a powdered sugar nut - love to take my spoon and scoop extra sugar into the beignet after I take a bite!!

They all may not be immediately hollow with one bite, but they are in the middle. That's what makes them light - not packy. Have you watched them cook them in behind their restaurant? Then You can see how they cook!

As a native New Orleanian, I think it depends on what you're looking for in a beignet. If you're looking for what Disney calls a beignet in WDW, it's in the Port Orleans French Quarter, as others have said. I agree that these are "passable" if you'll never get to enjoy the real deal. They'll do in a pinch- but it's not "just like" home. I really enjoy the music there. We had fun enjoying a plate of beignets on the cafe banquette.

The beignets at Disneyland (Mickey head) are donuts and are not beignets. They are tasty, but it's the wrong dough, which gives it the wrong texture and consistency. (Like real wrong- remember the time Disney tried to make a gumbo without the roux? It's that wrong.) Instead, they could be called "Disneyland Donuts- taste the magic!"

Hope you enjoy your trip!!
Another former NOLA girl here and I second this. The pastry I had at Disneyland was tasty enough but not the beignet I am used to. The ones at POFQ were closer to the real thing but not nearly as good. That's pretty much how it goes with Disney and anything Cajun/Creole.

Well, as someone who will be sitting at Cafe du Monde in five short days....

Actually, I have no finish to that sentence, I just wanted to brag that I'll be eating at the mother-of-beignet places in NoLa very soon! :-)
If you get a chance, try the ones at Morning Call. They are in City Park. I think they are better than Café du Monde

Seriously?? People are comparing an historic place that has specialized in beignets for over 150 years to a resort counter service?
We have had both and of course Cafe Du Monde has a better flavor and has a lot more dough inside theirs, but we still enjoy and have fun (powder flying everywhere, LOL) with the beignets from POFQ and always get them when we stay at POFQ.

Umm yes, traditional beignets are indeed hollow. I have had many, many beignets in France in 2016 and 2017 and they were all hollow.

Now that you've had a brief history lesson, you're still probably wondering, "what is a beignet?" Technically speaking, the word beignet is French for "fritter" or "doughnut." Traditional French beignets are a member of the French choux pastry family, which are raised in steam and have a hollow center. This method gives French beignets a light and pillowy texture.

IMO, the beignets at POFQ taste good, albeit messy to eat, but not worth going out of your way for. We only tried them because we were staying at POR and walked over for breakfast one morning.

I was just there two weeks ago and was unwilling to stand in a two block line for a doughnut. Good luck though. Go really, really early in the morning. The French Quarter doesn't wake up early.

Honestly, I know they have a fan following, but I didn't think they were good. The only other place I had them was Lola is Seattle, and those were to die for. The ones as POFQ were hollow, hard, and not very tasty. I'm not a beignets expert though.
I'm glad I'm not the only one! I was so excited to eat them again as an adult, and was very disappointed. Not worth the calories to me. I'd much rather have the cronut in Epcot!

The ones at Disney do not come close to authentic beignets.... meaning Beignets in NOLA.
I guess they can do in a pinch but If you have never had authentic beignets, just know they at 100000 times better than the ones at Disney.

Yes, I am a beignet snob and proud of it. LOL

Tasted like a stale doughnut to me. I wasn't impressed.

No, it does not! Still getting hosed down, in fact. ;-)

The times I've been there I never had to face a fight to get in. I'm hoping this next trip is no different.

Maybe because it was Spring Break time. DH went for a walk about 6AM...everything was very quiet. He mentioned that the homeless people sleeping in doorways were very friendly. There was a very short line for Cafe' du Monde. He thought about getting some beignets and coffee but decided to come back to our hotel to check on my hip pain. Our hotel was six blocks away. He went back at 7AM to get some for breakfast and came back empty handed as the line was crazy long. I can't walk or stand right now, waiting for an injection in my back tomorrow to help.

Pro tip with the POFQ beignets...don't order them with your meal. My experience has always been good when I have gone back up to get them fresh. If you order them with your meal they tend to get cold and harden up by the time you're ready to eat them.

If youre not staying at POR or POFQ, Personally after trying them while staying there, Id not waste the trip. If you've ever had any type of powdered or fried dough with powdered sugar, then, there you have it. I had them, so great. I'm done. No need to repeat.

This is basically it. They're decent & fun to eat if you're staying there (especially if you do the beignet dash!), but I wouldn't drive to Port Orleans just to buy one.

EdmondD I think of my husband whose name is Edmond initial D every time you post. We have a condo in New Orleans (on St. Charles) and will be back there in 5 days.

Ha! That's really something. And I never would have gotten into Stanford, BUT I like trees. :-)

Maybe I'll see you down there - I'm at the Roosevelt Hotel. Keep a look out for an Edmond D, covered in powdered sugar.
