Hi - we are due to fly from Gatwick on Sat 11th Dec and I am really beginning to get scared that we are not going to be going because of the weather:confused:

Having just read someone else's contingency plan of booking alternative flights to Miami out of Heathrow for next week - is there something I should be doing too??:confused3

I keep checking the 10 day forecasts and everything looks to me like it will be OK by then (I know we never know anything for certain when it comes to weather) - but if it was you travelling next weekend - would you be panicking now or believing that everything was going to be ok???:thumbsup2

I know everyone looks forward to their holidays and I am no different - but we have been planning and saving for this one off christmas trip for over 2 and a half years now and the thought that we might not get there is making me want to sit here and just cry!!:sad1:

Fingers crossed and pixiedust that the weather will take a turn for the better and you can make the trip!

We're supposed to leave in less than 48 hours time from Gatwick! :sad2:

I'm sure it will be fine by the 11th - that's a long time away weather wise :goodvibes. We had this a couple of Christmasses ago when we went to Las Vegas for Christmas - Vegas had their first snow in 40 years 4 days before we flew and no planes could land there. We were lucky in that we were the first Virgin flight out to Vegas that week in the end, the weather cleared up just in time. Just keep packing and preparing, and if the worst comes to it you can always book the Miami flights once you know more.

We are flying out on the 22nd and I am a bit stunned this is happening again, but deep-down its so far away I'm not close to worrying yet - and i honestly don't think you should be either

Have a lovely time :goodvibes

We fly out on the 9th & I haven't got any contingency plans - just hoping for the best :thumbsup2

I'm with you, as I keep being reminded a week is a long time. I am sending tons of pixiedust that gatwick can sort this for tomorrow morning and the snow does one!

thanks everyone for their reassurances:lovestruc - and I too hope everyone makes it on their holiday after all of this worry, even if we get little delays lets just hope we all make it there and back safe and sound:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

We fly out on 13th and I'm starting to feel a bit uneasy I must admit. I have started scouring the long range weather forecasts. If I don't like one I keep googling till I find a better one. Good Luck everyone pixiedust:

me too - glad I'm not the only one!!:goodvibes

Looks like flights are recommencing out of gatwick tomorrow!!!! check the virgin atlantic website for amended times, looks like things are on the up:woohoo:

Amy, I wouldn't worry - I am sure it will all be OK by then :)

I'm surprised anyone would try and change their flights to LHR - knowing my luck, if I did that the snow would clear from LGW and pile up at LHR :rolleyes1

thanks Karen:lovestruc I agree that would be my luck too!!!:thumbsup2

Mum has had a fun time of it - her BA flight was cancelled yesterday and then she managed to get on a midnight flight with Virgin but back to Heathrow!! I spoke to her an hour ago and she had just spent 3/4 hour digging her car out of a field in Gatwick airport where they were parked!! So
she won't be back to see us tonight now so I will get Steve to drop around the gift card over the weekend if that is ok as he won't have it for Jon tomorrow now!xx:thumbsup2

Oh no!!! Poor Jan :scared1::scared1: What a nightmare!

Please don't worry about the card - we can always pick it up if that's easier? Or Steve can give it to Jon next week. No worries.

I know how you are feeling.Last spring the Icelandic ash cloud appeared on and off for six weeks, i was sooo scared.48 hours before our flight Manchester airport closed again,i was beyond help, two years of saving almost in tatters, but the day before we were due to fly out it opened:worship:
The only good thing to come out of all that worry is i lost half a stone in weight:woohoo: I called it the Icelandic volcano diet;)

Ive checked the weather and it is looking positive for you.I will keep everything crossed and a little pixiedust:pixiedust: heading your way.
