If they do decide to start the school year the week before Labour Day, how many people will have their children miss that first week of school due to vacation etc?

We plan our vacations far in advance. Our accomodation was booked in September of last year and our flights were booked in the beginning of January. So, needless to say, if they do go forward with this decision, my children will be missing the first week of school.:sad1:

(I didn't notice a poll for this, if there is already one, please delete this thread.)

So, if school started a week before Labour Day, will your children be missing the first week of school?...

Thanks.:)

This is a public poll so please know that others will see your vote. Thank you.

Thanks to all that voted.

Is there anyone else who wants to vote?

I called the school last week and they have no definitive decision. Although my children would be in elementary this Sept 2009 and not in the higher grades, I am still a little concerned about them missing the first week of school. I find that this is when they transition to school mode.

I voted before I really read the rest of the thread. If I was in the same boat as you, airfare booked, etc., I guess my kids would be missing school. Having said that, I would skip this years' free dining (assuming it's offered) if the kids had to go back early. I feel that the first few days of school are very important for kids to make new friends, etc.

We're planning on driving not flying to Florida but that is the time we planned for and that is the time we'll take.:lovestruc

My son will be. We have an Alaskan cruise already booked with non refundable airfare and family joining us for the east coast and Manitoba.

Dh is a teacher. If the kids are back...so is he. But he's actually back the week before and that's what might mess us up for holidays.

I voted no just because my oldest missed alot at the beginning of this year and it was hard to catch up to where she was supposed to be. This year also dd 2 starts kindergarden so I don't want her to miss out any either... Plus our vacation is end of july this year so we'll be around anyhow.

Didn't vote since we aren't planning a vacation during that time anyways.

My kids will be among the ticked-off ones that will be sent to school before labour day by their mean parents who couldn't come up with a way to get them out of going back to school before all the lucky kids with better parents that got to go on vacation instead.:rotfl:

We are usually just up at the cottage so I voted no, we would be back.
