I can see it now, you and I walk into LeCellier, hand in hand, without an ADR and have no wait at 5:30 pm ;)

I don't know about you, but I would probably be skipping into LeCellier if I had no wait without an ADR. :rotfl:

I cant wait to try LeCellier !! This trip will be the first time we've been there.

I don't understand how this tips DDE out of favor.

I'd assume that most people using the DDE tip 18% at TS locations prior to the announcement today. The exception may be buffets.

For me the announcement today changes nothing about the DDE.

I understand that people may feel forced now, especially when they have bad service. For me, we'll talk to a manager if we feel that a tip is out of line.

98% of the general public won't talk to the manager. We are mindless sheep that do as we are told, or trained. I am sorry, but if the service wasn't top notch before, do you really think that it will be better with a automatic tip?

I understand that all the dining changes are because of union contract concessions.

You are supposed to tip according to what a meal cost BEFORE discounts and taxes. The 18% gratuity is to be figured this way. Personally, I usually add at least 20% to the total amount, unless there is a discount ....then I add a little more. If figured for me, this is probably all they will get. In Europe ....service(gratutity) is included in the price of the food....Disney might as well do that.....since it's what they are doing anyway.

I will be very surprised if this isn't instituted on the DDP...and eventually all of their dining eventually.

Agreed, many won't talk to the manager. I will if it's bad enough, so it works for me.

Also, I still maintain that the automatic 18% gratuity on the DDE will not adversely affect service. Servers do not know that they are receiving the automatic gratuity until the meal is over and you present your DDE card.

Because of this, the servers will work for your tip, just like they're working for the DDP and OOP tips this year.

I guess I don't understand what the big fuss is about. Isn't everyone tipping the wait staff anyway? Or is everyone consistently getting crappy service that they are shorting the tip? If that is the case, then your beef shouldn't be about automatic gratuity, it should be about lousy wait staff.

And even if this does apply to everyone, how does that really affect the DDP? You should still be tipping at TS restaurants. Whether or not it is already included is no biggie to me.

:hippie:

My question is, can we still tip higher if we have very good service? We always tip 20% unless it is really bad, but sometimes I have tipped higher for really good service. Or at least to give them 20%. I'm assuming we can still add to the tip if we want to?

I'm with others here, we have been using the DDE for years and it is absolutely great. The amount of money we save is way beyond what we pay for it. In fact, this year, the first trip we used it we saved more than what it cost. I'm for never getting rid of the DDE!

I agree. This does not sway me at all from the DDE. Of all the changes rumored to happen, this reality is great. Actually the servers will probably get less of a tip from us since we use to just add the 20% back on for the tip. (Of course, the better servers will still get more than 18%). I'm so use to this procedure anyhow because hubby use to be a CM and the CM discount for dining also includes the 18% gratuity, so this is like going back to the way we were use to. So agree, with so many folks eating offsite, hopefully it will be easier for us to get into some last minute restraurants.

I love, love, love LeCellier, and the pretzel bread is the best!!! We could all go hand in hand , skipping and singing Disney songs!! Oh, please, dissers who want to eat offsite now, just do it!!

This will affect the DDE, Only!!!

And parties of 6 of more.

From allears.net:

"NOVEMBER 2007

The Walt Disney World® Resort will be implementing an across property policy change regarding gratuity at all food and beverage locations. Effective January 1, 2008, 18% gratuity will be added to all transactions, regardless of party size. (11/8/07 Disney Dining Experience Newsletter)

This is reportedly for ALL table service locations regardless of whether you are using a Disney Dining Experience card or not."

Not to say whether they're right or wrong, just reporting what it says :scared1:

If true, it seems they're guaranteeing the servers the 18% they took off the DDP.

However, I'm a bit disturbed by the "all food and beverage locations" since one could certainly infer that this means CS as well as food courts. Surely that isn't the case. If it is, when you add tax, it's a 25% increase in your food budget. A $2 bottle of water will now be $2.50, and the person who hands it to you will "earn" $.36. I just have to assume this isn't the case :headache:

I'm fine with the new policy. It's standard practice in most of the resort destinations we've been to over the last five years or so, and we tip that much anyway.

I think Disney was headed for an unworkable mess, with 18% automatically being added if you used the DDE card, but not if you used DDP or paid cash. That makes no sense. Nor does automatic 18% for a party of six, but not for a party of five. One property-wide policy makes sense.

I know there are some folks who don't like to tip that much -- in fact, there are a LOT of folks who don't like to tip at all.

But that's life. WDW is expensive. Eating onsite is expensive. There are other options.

!

you can leve more if you want no problem,if bad service and want to leave less manager has to adust
