So, I'm new to scrapbooking (well, the fancy kind...I've done some informally). I have 12x12 cardstock and then I have 12x12 decorative paper that is lighter weight. If you want to use the decorative paper as a full background, do you just mount it on cardstock? What's the best way to do this without getting glue wrinkles?

I'm used to just using cardstock alone...

Sorry if this question is really remedial! And TIA!

you can mount the thinner paper on cardstock but personally I don't.

What kind of adhesive are you using? I use a tape runner which eliminates glue glop and wrinkling.

ETA no questions are remedial or stupid. We have all been newbies at one time!

If you like to wallpaper your pages, I would recommend the lighter paper. Cardstock gets heavy in a full album. I use a CM tape runner too.

I usually use tape, but I figured I'd need glue for this. Thank you for the help!

Do people normally scrap on thinner paper? I always did thin paper, but then I read somewhere that cardstock was an essential (and I think it might actually be easier for me to work with, so I'm going to give it a try).

patterned paper can get expensive and obviously doesn't hold up to long term abuse and a lot of handling. But I don't think card stock is necessarily a must have.

I use my patterned paper more as an accent most of the time, I use cardstock as my base and use the patterned paper (PP) for mats, journaling, accents. etc

check out our virtual scrapbook at the top of this sub forum and the member gallery at www.twopeasinabucket.com to see how people use the papers in different ways.

There really is no wrong way to scrap. everyones style is different. The biggest thing is to use acid free papers and adhesive to keep your pictures safe.

When I paper scrapped (I digital scrap now), I occasionally used patterned paper for my background. I always used top loading books, so I ensured that the page it would be backed up against was cardstock, so it got the weight of that page in the album, without having to mount the paper on to cardstock. I was never one for removing pages to look at them, so that wasn't an issue for me, however I believe some ladies do that.
