Hi everyone,

Okay, I admit that I have gone to Disney with my Sony p&s a few times...never really happy with the dark shots (dark rides, night shots). I have access to a Nikon DS80 and several lenses that haven't been outlined for me yet. I also have my Iphone 6.

I am going to Disneyland with my DD (17) in October, so I have some time to play with my equipment before I go. I have very little experience with DSLRs.

Can anyone give me any suggestions? Should I even try with the DS80 or should I just use my Iphone and hope for the best?

Thanks

Assume you mean D80... there is no DS80. The d80 is a very very old model.... it may not necessarily be a ton better than a current generation iPhone. Depending how you use it.
If paired with the right fast lens, it will be much better on dark rides than an iPhone. But if paired with a regular kit lens, it will be useless.
If you know how to use it and want to shoot with background separation (blurred backgrounds), it will be able to do so much better than an iPhone -- though again depends on the lenses.
If you are hoping to take telephoto shots, that's obviously potentially more possible on the d80, IF you have a telephoto lens.

If your sticking to wide/regular fields of view, shooting in decent light, landscapes and snapshots... your iPhone will be just as good. Maybe even better.

Thank you Havoc315. Yes, it should read d80. I will have a look at the lenses when they get here. I know that there are a few others than just the ones which came with it...but I would suggest that there isn't anything too high end. Maybe I just work with my p&s and iphone...hmm...

The D80 will give you more control over the camera than the iPhone. If you know how to leverage that control, that is if you understand how to use aperture, shutter speed and ISO to your advantage, you can do a lot more than you'd be able to with an iPhone. But if you leave it on auto modes and let the camera make the decisions for you then you might actually fare better with a p&s or iPhone.
