Begging for relocation help, from N.O area

First off, public schools in Mobile County are the worst in the state. They are the only system not controlled by the state so they make up their own rules. AL colleges are great though, I just wish AL would do what other states are doing. I do not know much about other counties except Baldwin County which is better than Mobile. The eastern shore (Spanish Fort area) is a booming area. Malls and housing are coming up faster each day.

I love the Douglasville, Hiram, Marietta area of GA. I have relatives up there and they are very pleased with the schooling and the state does offer college scholarships of some sort for good grades and etc.

Southern for Sure brings up a good point. Since you have kids that may be in college in a few years.
GA has the Hope Scholarship it is funded by the lottery. Essentially anyone with decent grades can get free tuition at a State School

I live in a suburb of Augusta GA. Housing here is very affordable and the schools are good in Columbia County. My SIL lives in Mt. Pleasant SC and really likes it there.

I second Mt Pleasant, SC. Although we can get hurricanes it's an excellent place to raise a family. Very different from the rest of Charleston and SC.

PolyAddict, My family and I lived in Louisiana all of our lives until 2002. We moved a few times before we ended up here. We live right outside of Charlotte, NC and LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We have several friends that have moved here since Katrina hit. They also love it. However, I do understand that different people have different tastes. What some people love, others hate. That is why I recommend the "find your spot" quiz. This is the link:

This quiz will give you a tailored list of the best cities and towns that fit YOU!!!!!!!!

It will give you many questions about what you like and don't like in a hometown/city. Then they will give you the top cities/towns that fit YOU!! It is awesome!! Once you get your top cities/towns then you can get detailed information, like schools, museums, recreation, cost of living, houses, etc. My DH and I have done it several times. It is also fun for anyone to do just to see what places are out there to visit.

Have fun! This should be a BIG help for you.

I love the link tlhb70!!! All of the suggestions are great. Keep um coming

Thanks

there is also a good link in coldwellbankeratlanta.com. you can use it to search by neighborhood, city, price range, county, zip and schools. i use it all the time to keep track of homes i am interested in to see how long they have been on the market. it's a great site, sometimes takes a little long to load though, but don't let that put you off. good luck with your search, we moved up here 10 years ago from north miami beach, fla and wouldn't dream of leaving the atlanta area.
