Ok, so we purchased 200 pts. at BLT last week and were given 200 '09 pts as an incentive. We are not planning on returning to WDW until October of 2010 As I understand it, in November of this year I can call to make ressies at my home resort. Do I need to bank my '09 points before I make the ressie in order to use them for that trip before they expire in Jan. 2011? My use year is Feb. so I know I need to bank by the end of next month if that is what I should do. TIA for the advice. There is a lot to learn!!

Your 2009 points are good for stays 2/1/09 to 1/31/10. So if you want to stay 2/1/10 or after, you have to bank the 2009 points into your 2010 use year. The banking deadline for February is Sept. 30.

You can make ressies without the points as long as you have them for the trip. So you would bank 09 points by end of Sept and have them for the trip next year. Since the trip is in Oct. You would need to be sure you used banked 09 points, first then what ever points you need from 2010. And bank the 2010 points by 9/31/10. So you would have 400 points in Oct.

From my understanding, and I am NEW at this (I think I got something wrong the other day but can't find it, whoopsie), but I think the '10 points will be fine. Since she'll be using them in October of '10, that's inside of that use year (feb '10 to end of Jan '11). If she were to bank the '10 points, that would render them useless until feb '11.

So she'll bank the '09 points before the end of September, changing them to feb '10-end of Jan '11, her '10 points will already be good from feb '10-end of Jan '11, and it'll all work for her October '10 trip.


I kinda know this b/c we're going to bank what's left of our '09 feb UY points (we're using some for Disneyland this Oct), so they can be used in '10 for an October or December trip to WDW. We'll likely even be borrowing '11 points for the trip! So the '09 points will be banked, the '11 points will be borrowed...but the '10 points will just be normal points.

No the 2010 UY points should NOT be banked if op wants to use those 2010 UY points for their October 2010 trip because banking those 2010 Use Year would place them into
2011 Use Year where they would have to remain & could only be used for a reservation occurring
between Feb 1 2011 & Jan 31 2012.

November 2009 could call MS to book October 2010 trip at their Home Resort at which time MS should use the banked 2009 UY points FIRST in the reservation & then take any additional points needed to complete the reservation from 2010 UY allotment of points (which is the CURRENT UY allotment of points for Oct 2010 trip); 2010 UY points are available to use for reservation taking place from Feb 1 2010 through Jan 31 2011 - October 2010 trip occurs during this window. If additional points were needed still, MS could also borrow in what is needed from 2011 UY allotment of points when the reservation is made in November 2009.

They have the points already. If they look online at the points in their account, they should have 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012. The points don't "deposit" when the use year starts, they are already there.

First, one important rule to remember: Your use-year, banking, borrowing, etc. has nothing to do with when you can make a reservation. All that matters for reservations is the 11 or 7 month window.

As to the OP's specific situation...

You have 2009 points. Your banking dealing for those points is September 30, 2009. Unless you are going to use them by January 31, 2010 you need to bank them.

Yes, you will want to bank your 2009 points so you can use them in 2010. Since your trip is happening in your 2010 UY, you can "pay" for it with banked 2009 points, 2010 UY points, and "borrowed" 2011 points.

Once you bank the points, you will have 400 points to use in the 2010 UY (+ an additional 200 borrowed points from 2011, if you need them) for a total of 600 points available.

When you call in Nov, 2009 to make the ressie, just tell them you want to be sure the banked points are used first. MS typically does this but it does not hurt to make sure they understand that is your intent. If the ressie is less than 400 points, then you will still have 2010 points left.

Those extra points will have to be either banked by Sept 30th, 2010 or used by the end of the 2010 UY (January 31st, 2011).
