Beer????

I heard so many peole praise Spaten Optimator so when me & my friends went "Drinking Around the World" a little over a year ago I was dispaointed that I couldn't find it. However, a month or so ago I was at Total Wine (a liqour store) and they had an array of indivdual beers you could purchase and I saw Spaten and had to try it. Needless to say it was far from my liking.:confused3

My favorite from that trip at Epcot was TsingTao which was offered at the China pavillion. Tasted like a sweet Heineken.

My least favorites at Epcot were the Carlsberg in Norway and Moosehead in Canada. I could think of a more fitting name for Moosehead but I'd probaly get a warning for posting it on here.:rotfl:

At a local beer pub I once had a Heffeweizen that was loightly flavored with bannana and a hint of clove!! Outstanding!!!!

I tried a Bannana Wheat years ago at a local microbrew, that was nothing to write home about ... almost too sweet, and tasted like they just added a bunch of fake bannana/ester flavor.

I've also had a Chocolate Banana Stout that was great. I'm not a big stout fan, but the bannana was very subtle, and balanced the strength of the stout very well.

Your right that TOO much flavor added to beer isn't good. Take Sam Adams Cherry Wheat--reminds me of Vicks Formula 44...
But Michelob used to make a Honey lager that I liked a lot. And Lancaster makes a Strawberry Wheat that has a nice, subtle flavor.

Greystroke: Can't imagine what you were thinking of:) , but isn't there a beer called Moosedrool???

Best beer?? Where can I find it?? Going in July (staying at AKL) and it'd be nice to have some new beer experiences!!!

Finally a topic I can sink my teeth... no palate into:drinking1 !!

The first question is what kind of beer are you looking for, pilsner, ale, stout, lager... so many beers, so little time!!!!

A few notes:

For a great wide selection, Raglan Road offers some really tasty drafts; Bass, Guinness, Harp, Smithwicks, Stella Artois, Boddingtons... I always prefer draft to cans or bottles.

For fresh made, nothing beats Big River Brew Works @ Boardwalk!! Hands down the best IPA (India Pale Ale) I've ever had, and that's saying something! Try the beer flight, 7 six oz. glasses to sample so you know which to keep ordering.

For cool combos go to The Rose & Crown for a Black and Tan (Guinness floated on Bass) or a Half and Half (Guinness floated on Harp) and of course you can't beat the English Pub feel!:thumbsup2

Ethnics:

Mexican... Dos Equis Amber (with a lime) @San Angel Inn:cool2:
Italian... Perroni @ Italy in EPCOT
Japanese... Kirin @ Japan in EPCOT
Canadian... Moosehead or LaBatts @ LeCellier
French... Just kidding:rotfl2:
American... All the usuals at ESPN Zone Miller, Bud, Coors, HINT Try a Sierra Nevada Pale Ale if it's available or a Flying Fish, two good US Brews!!:thumbsup2
German... Kroenberg @ Germany in Epcot (Heineken is Dutch but you can get it here)

Truly one of my favorite Disney "things to do" is sample different brews from around the world, and in EPCOT you may just get some advise from a CM on a beer from their home land that you never would have tried!

CHEERS!!!!

Jeff - you rock! Thank you for that feedback. I LOVE Moosehead - it's great, but the thing is, I can get it out here anywhere!! I'm looking forward to trying those uncommon beers that I can't just get anywhere.

Glad to be of service!!

Remember, sometimes the beer you get here in the local stores is not the beer you are served in WDW. Case in point, the Bass Ale on tap at Rose & Crown is imported by the keg from Britain, were most bottled beer is reformulated from concentrate after being shipped from overseas. Sounds dumb but it makes a difference! Also, some of the beers from other countries are a tough to take, and spending $5 - $6 a bottle for a beer that gives you a sour puss:scared1: is not money well spent (hence the beer flight!!):thumbsup2

Again, for the best beer experience try The Big River Brew Works. They brew the beer there and you can tell the freshness!!

Of course there's nothing wrong with an ice cold Miller Lite and a cheesebuger by your favorite resort pool!!!

Enjoy......

If you want a real treat, go to the check in counter at LeCellier and ask for a la fin Dumonde to go. Hmmmmmm good!

Although my son in the picture is now 21 and this will be our last trip (for him DS21, Me ,DW and DS19) before he will be off to the working world in the Big Apple in July after graduating from the University Of Pennsylvania in May (Wharton, Ivy League and the Penn Football Team no less). I should be no problem having him accompany his dad for a walk around the worlds for a beer in each country. Just may start on the Canada side and have one of those la fin Dumonde. Le Celler is always one of our ADR's on the DDP.
I'll have to have him pick all of the higher quality beers since I graduated from Penn State ( quite a while ago) that was more of a Schlits or Schmits type of College.
:cool1: :hippie: pirate: popcorn::

Are you really from North East? My MIL lives on Banks St. I went to Texas and it was an any kind of beer you could get school. My youngest went to Syracuse and there's a bar in Armory Square, The Blue Tusk, that has 69 beers on tap because they couldn't fit anymore taps in. Likely story for a college bar!

Both bar areas, and the two restaurants in AKL serve African beer. It was pretty darn good!!!

At the Poly, specifically the Barefoot Pool Bar, they have Fire Rock Pale Ale by Kona Brewing Co. I really enjoyed it...

where on property do they serve blue moon?? that's my all time favorite next to yuengling (which we can't get in ma... but i usually get it when i go home)!

Blue Moon is available at many WDW spots now--Turf Club and Crews Cup lounge come immediately to mind.

If you like Blue Moon, you should try Franziskaner (if you haven't already). It's a similar style wheat brew, that I'm pretty sure they still serve at the German pavillion in EPCOT.

SInce I'm in the Philly area, Yuengling is the house brew around these parts. It's on tap everywhere, so I've kinda grew up with it. It's usually my fall back beer when I go to a place that has nothing decent on tap, and you can't beat paying the same price as Bud, Miller, Coors ... for Yuengling.

Well that is North East Pennsylvania or would be the North East part of the US
Live in the Poconos south of Wilkes-Barre.
Best beer brewed locally around here is Yuengling Lager.
That Fire Rock Pale Ale beer pictured above looks pretty refreshing

I live in he Poconos too!!! 10 min away from Jim Thorpe, and originally from Hazleton.

Graduated from Hazleton 1971, wife West Hazleton 1972, live on Rt 93, 5 min south of Conyngham the Berwick side of the mountain, son was a Berwick Bulldog. I pass thru Jim Thorpe one a week to bowl in Lehighton. We try to get to Disney one a year but since my son is graduating from the University of Pennsylvania this May we are going the 4 of us in June and Me and DW are signed up for the bounce back free DDP in Sept. so hopefully we can afford to go 2 times this year.
Best airflights and prices from this area are from Allentown (Allegiant Air) direct to Sanford Orlando most every day.

We fly out of Allentown on Allegiant too!!!!Much cheaper than going to Philly for a major air carrier!!! I'll be working in Disney from Jan 28-Aug. 15th!!! Enjoy your trip!!!

The best option by far is Big River Grille at the Boardwalk. They also offer one of the most affordable options in beer, I had their sampler last March and it provided 7 four-ounce pours for under 6 dollars. Their Rocket Red was the hands down winner of the bunch.

Another option for craft beer fans is Wolfgang Pucks. While I haven't been there myself, I know that they carry Unibroue, Sierra Nevada, and other well-known micros.

I'd also certainly suggest the options in Germany, in Epcot. They carry various beers from Spaten. (Optimator, Premium Lager, and Franziskaner Hefeweizen the last time I was there)

I'm psyched to hear that the Polynesian carries Kona beers. Does anyone know if these are available at the bar there, or just in Ohanas?
