Does anyone know if they offer this on the Dream? When and where do I sign up for these classes?

Do you happen to have a fairly new navigator that lists what's available??

I know my siblings took one a few years ago when on the Dream. It was a 4 night cruise. I don't remember seeing one when we cruised last year, I wanted to do one, but took mixology instead.

I really want to do the mixology class but I heard it sells out so quickly

Not the DREAM but we did the beer tasting on the Fantasy a few cruises back. NOT worth it!!!! Boddingtons was the highlight, and the presenters really knew nothing about beer. They left out Ale altogether and Wheat beers as well...

Boddingtons is an ale.

DH will love the Whiskey tasting.

I enjoyed the whiskey tasting, but it is a matter of expectations. If he is an expert and expects 4 whiskeys that he's never heard of or that are SUPER expensive, he will be disappointed. If he enjoys whiskey and want to hear some interesting facts (some of which he may already know) and have a glass of 4 decent whiskeys of different types, then he will enjoy it, as I did. Maybe he will learn a thing or two, and it is certainly a relaxing time. One thing I liked about the Whiskey (and the Cognac) tasting, is that it is later in the evening (like 10PM) so it doesn't conflict with other activities, where as the mixology and many of the other tastings are in the afternoon.

This completely. I typically have more knowledge than the person doing the Whiskey/Whisky and Cognac presentations (I'm a bit of an alcohol and cocktail geek and have been collecting for years) but I do at least one, if not two or three whisky tastings on every cruise. Occasionally they'll even do a higher-end, invitation-only but also more expensive, tasting for connoisseurs once they've gotten a feel for the guests on that cruise, but it's rare. I've been to one of those and there were some higher end drams in that selection. Either way, they're always a whole lot of fun and a great way to meet other people of varying knowledge levels. I would recommend it wholeheartedly.

I have found the wine tastings, mixology classes, martini tastings, and whiskey tastings to be generally informative and fun on a consistent basis (these have been on the Magic, Fantasy, and Wonder; never sailed on the Dream). Beer tastings have been more hit or miss. The first couple I did were good, but two more since then have been very poor. The last experience on the Fantasy was a total waste of time as well as money: no real information about the beers being sampled, different types of beers, or any other insight into the brewing process.

Separate fee.

Yes, but I find the fees they charge to be very reasonable. It's typically less than you'd pay just to buy the drinks they give you. So, it's like a discount on the drinks, plus a free class.

I'm not at all a Cognac person, but I did do the tasting once just to see if I was missing something. I think they gave us 4 different Cognacs to taste, including one expensive one. Doing one after the other, even my unrefined Cognac palate could judge the increase in quality. Immediately after, I did have to splurge and try one shot of the King Louis XIII at my own expense. I could tell it was better, but I didn't think proportionally for the price (for those that don't know, it's typically $125 a shot).

Do they bring on Alaska Brewery beers in Alaska? If so and they do a tasting with those, do it!!!! I did that on HAL (in my pre-gluten-free days) and really enjoyed it. Well, not the IPA which was way too hoppy - but the Summer (I think that was the Orca on the label) and the White (Polar Bear on the label) were great!!
