Can't figure out what that round rack thing is on top of the fridge in Carousel of Progress! What the heck is that thing? Its in the second scene I believe. Anyone know?:p

Hi (waving!)... over 550+ trips here :)

That's the top mounted condenser for the refrigerator. They used to be called "monitor" topped fridges back in the day.

It's part of the fridge - it's called a GE Monitor Top. From the 1920s.

Wow, I've been to WDW 13 times, but only in Carousel of Progress twice at the insistence of my oldest daughter! I avoid that thing like the plague.

I love CoP. We never miss it, going whenever we are there and it is open. However, I've never noticed that on the fridge before. I'm not as eagle eyed as I thought.

Another CoP lover as well! I actually saw it for the first time at the 1964 New York World's Fair (**cough OLD cough**) lol! :)

How is 550+ trips even possible..?

Well, you start in 1971 and the rest just follows :) When we lived in Chicago, we'd go several times a year. Since moving to Florida (when dinosaurs still roamed the earth), we have the ability to go every weekend. We stopped doing that a few years ago and now just go a few times a year. We've been there for every major holiday and life milestone.

Oh ok interesting and lucky!

It's been quite an adventure with some really lovely memories :) We've been a part of many grand-openings at WDW (Blizzard Beach, AKL, WL, BW, Pop Century, MGM Studios, etc., etc.).

I have NEVER noticed that thing on top of the fridge!

I am checking that out in Oct. I have never noticed it before. LOL

We have made 57 trips - a trip defined as a stay at a condo/hotel/resort. Two of them were by car and the rest by air. We are going in two weeks (by air) and staying at Shades of Green. In the fall we are going for 7 weeks staying at condos. That will be by car. Except for the vary long trips, we generally stay for 7 to 10 days. I'd say we average 7 park days per trip which would make almost 400 park day, probably more. These are a WAG but probably not that inaccurate. My sister stayed at Fort Wilderness in her RV for almost two years after she retired. I talked to her and we have never questioned the origin of that "thing" on the refrigerator. Just sayin'

Ohh now I'll have to see if my husband will notice this when we next go. We always do Carosel of Progress. It's one of my husband's favorites and I love it too.

Carousel of Progress is always a MUST for us, and we have never noticed that either.

We had a fridge exactly like that in the 1950s...
They made them to last then! When my dad built our new house (1959) it wouldn't fit so he gave it to another family who used it at their lake cottage in upstate NY. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if it lasted another 10-15 you!
Love CoP, it makes me nostalgic!

I am so jealous of those of you who have been hundreds of times. When we were relocating from PA less than two years ago, the world was our oyster. We didn't have a specific destination in mind, we just were ready to get out of the brutal winters and wanted somewhere warmer. For me, the easiest places to get work were narrowed down to Tampa, Atlanta, Dallas and Phoenix. For Disney reasons, I was hoping for Tampa, but my wife didn't want to live there. So Atlanta won out. But now we're close enough to drive to WDW, so it's a minor victory there.

Back on topic...I like the CoP quite a bit, as I've always loved post industrial revolution history. One thing I wonder is why WDW keeps it open? It never seems to draw a crowd, as in ever. I would expect they would close it down and put something else in. I'm not advocating for that, I'd love to see it stay, but I'm surprised it has.
