HI. OK I am pretty sure this will get many different response, but that's ok. Thats what I want. I am wondering if I am a nut, because I often but not always request a bedspread change, upon the first night in a hotel if I am staying a lengthy stay. (Just one or two nights I won't). Sometimes I get the HEEbii Jeebies thinking how many people have put there bare*** on the bedspread after getting out Or before going into\ the shower. At home here I personally won't even do it in my own bed. I know,I am a nut, but we ALL have our quirks. Anyway when I travel, I usually bring some sort of disinfectant spray and will spray the curtains etc.
So getting to my question how many people request a bedspread change? I heard of having a special room cleaning??? do to allergies, which I do. I am allergic to dust mites. Any and all input would be great! Thanks

I've never thought of requesting a bedspread change but you do have some valid points. :snooty:

Just because you get a new bedspread it doesn't mean that bedspread has been cleaned any more often or differently than the one already on the bed. They just go in to a closet and pull another one out.

Unfortunatly you never know. Though with millions of people staying in hotels every year, us included, there doesn't seem to be a lot of issues that would point to this being a major health concern.

I think in some Hotels in the closet there are pillows and a blanket in zipped palstic holders for people with allergies - but not sure if they change that out unless it was used.

I would never think that one out of the closet has also been used. YUck. I know, you're right that it is probably not a great health concern, but that's not my point. I just am disgusted at the thought. Now, I am not on any pedestal, I have dust under my bed, like anyone but this topic itself just gets under my skin. Like I said, its more of a quirky thing. Now that its brought to mind that the one in the closet might not be clean  now what. Do any of you remember that movie " As Good As it Gets" where Jack Nicholson carries his own silverware to the restaurant. Well I am not that bad by far, thank goodness, but I am "funny" about hotel bedspreads. Sometimes I will just take them off or fold them at the end of the bed also. So thanks for your response.
Keep them coming:love:

I honestly think its gross that they expect people to reuse a bedspread that others have been on. I always go in and strip the bedspread off, fold it, and leave it in the corner or closet with a note on top for the maid not to put it back on the bed. I started doing this after I saw blood on one before, oh and those suspicious "white" spots from you know what, Gross! I feel a bedspread change is just as important as changing the sheets and such.

thanks for the tip maybe I can request one like that

Do you ever request a change or just leave it off?
I don't know what is worse, blood or White stains:scared1:

I have the same thoughts running through my head when I stay. The problem now is we stay in hotels that have the down comforters as the spread. Yes I am sure they probably change the duvet but.... Those duvet covers are NOT liquid proof so everytime something leaks through the duvet then where does it go... right into the comforter over and over and overand we all know that those down comforters are not thrown into the washing machine! I get cold so I need a blanket on so what is laying on top of me grosses me out!

Depending on the tempature in the room and my length of stay, sometimes I request clean ones, or for short stays, I just do without them.

I always bring my own comforter and dont use the one on top. I also bring my own pillows as its hard for me to fall asleep on what im not familiar with. This is an easy solution and probably wont take up much room in the car if you pack it right.

Dont laugh... this is good.

I worked in the Breakers Hotel at Cedar Point Amusement Park (Sandusky OH) as a high school student. And we NEVER changed bedspreads, NEVER.

I have a regiment now to all hotel stays. The first thing I do when I walk in any hotel room is spill soda or juice on the bed, and call housekeeping requesting a new one. If there are two beds, I request 2.

I have never had the front desk question this. Also I have no problem looking and smelling the replacements to make sure they are freshly washed. I would accept a dirty glass at a restaurant.... Dont be shy, the hotel staff knows how dirty they are.

Good to know. We just might have an accident ha ha.
Why is that you think? that hotels don't change the bedspreads, I mean peoples *** go on it. Or maybe some excited kid who gets in the room and jumps on the bed with his/her shoes on.

Question for OP.....Im interested to know what you do on an airplane? They only clean their seats once a year !

Just dont think about it. There are so many YUCK things we come accross in our dailey lives. You you dwell on them you would not be able to function.

Exposure to germs is good for your body.

And we NEVER changed bedspreads, NEVER.
As someone who has had the dubious "pleasure" of staying at several of the Cedar Point resorts, this doesn't surprise me even a little.

I don't bother. I know some do. I don't. I don't wash bedspreads and blankets for guests in my home, either. Sheets yes. Bedspreads, no. They are washed every several months at most.

I try not to think about it. But it is still there. Remember bacteria doesnt live forever. I pray it is dead before I check in. I always pack a can of disinfectant.

Hotels dont changed the bedspreads because of the cost of doing laundry, the need to buy at least 2 bedspreads instead of one. And most people dont complain about it. But I always think of the television specials where they use the specials cameras to see the yuck in hotel rooms.

On my last business trip - very nice hotel. I found several problems, a pile of dirty clothes behind the bathroom door when checking in. And a used balloon like article under the bed. Yes I requested a new room, and a new bedspread. Did I mention it was an expensive suite hotel with double in the name.

Your worried about a bedspread... well then you need to worry about the tv remote, the phone, the door knob to your room!!!!! The faucet, the door knob to the bathroom, the toilet flush, the door coming into the hotel, the elevator buttons.. that's a good one!!!! Enjoy!!!!

I never use the bedspreads. They're just like little blankets that are put there to look nice, in my point of view. I just strip the whole bed down to just the white sheet that covers the bed. And if you wanted, you could take that off and put your own on there. But the bedspread, I am sure is the least of your worries. The whole bed could be dirty. Not just the bedspread. The whole room could be dirty. You can easily solve the bed problem by bringing your own things. Also, if you really want to keep your hotel room clean.., you could bring some cleaning products with you. Just in case the maid does not do a good job. To clean off the toilets, remote, etc.
