Bedspread change?

The easiest thing to do is go to wal-mart and pick up 2 things. A cheap flat sheet ( twin size thrown lenth wise is fine and around 4.00 ) , and a space bag OR cheap blanket. I do this every trip. You can pack a twin flat sheet still in the package without it taking up much room and throw it out when you leave. I always place thise on TOP of the sheets they have on the bed. Trust me as a former maid years back I know they are not changed all the time.

As far as the comforter goes just take it off and put it in the closet or tell the maid to take it with her the next day if you are staying for a while . Bring a space bag if you want and or need a bulky comforter and once you suck out the air that thing is flat as a pancake. But again you can always pick up a or bring a blanket cheap as well.

I dont blame the OP I would not want to touch the bedspread or anything else much in the room for that matter.

Just reading this disgusts me BLECH.... We own a vacation rental, and I make darn sure the quilts are washed along with all blankets and linens between each guest whether they know it or not.... I think some of our guests put it aside with that fear, but no way could I in good consciousness put a guest in my unit with a used beadspread, it's a disgusting habit hotels use to save money :scared1:

I always bring disinfectant wipes and wipe down toilet seats, tubs, chair legs .... when I stay at most hotels (with gloves on). As a DVC member, I am not afraid to wash the sheets and other light blankets in the machines provided. I also run all the dishes through the diswasher on sani-cycle before I use them. I usually bring a small supply of bleach to run through the clothes washer ( to clean the machine and sanitize any residual water) and the bath tub if it has water jets. (Drain the bleach water, then draw the bath) Not sure how this affects the jets. I am a health professional and have seen too may cases of antibiotic resistant skin infections. If time permits I also wipe things down before I leave to protect the staff and the next people in the room, in the event that my family picked up some nasty skin stuff and left it in the room. I must admit this does not get done on early morning departures.

I am allergic to dust mites, I bring vinyl mattress covers and pillow covers on the trip, I used to bring the good cloth ones, but I forgot too many and that ran into $$$$$

Not a hotel staff issue but as long as we are dealing with Yuk, family members should not share towels. That is why I like the DVC units with wash machines. I wash the towels when needed, or if they get mixed up. It also feels great to time the dryer cycle to when you get out of the shower and get a hot towel.

Also, I try to wear foot covering at most times in the hotel, as I would rather cover my feet than have a plantar wart to deal with.

Many of the travel magazines, Travel Smith comes to mind, sell silk (for lack of a better term) body bags that you can travel with, they pack into a small space and they are intended to be slept in to protect you from the sheets in your hotel room. The travel catalogs have lots of useful things for freqent travelers. I believe they also have worked out similar type bags for airline travel.
Also, when you check out of a DVC unit, more often than not there is a basket of clean bedding that is to be used when you leave. I often pull the sheets off the bed before I leave and place them in the bath tub, so there is no question that they were slept on. Hopefully wrinkled sheets mixed with damp towels in the tub wouldn't be reused before they are washed. This also serves as a check that we didn't leave anything in/on the bed when we are packing.

Some of the precautions take time, but hospitals are seeing more infections that are difficult or impossible to treat. You don't want that on your vacation.

I would hope that someone is counting sheets and other bedding that should be washed at Disney. Does anyone know?

I never use the bedspread in a hotel. Yuck! I bring my own blanket if we drive. If we fly, I have gone and bought a cheap blanket to use.

Another yucky thing... My friend who worked for a really fancy hotel told me that the glasses that are left by the ice bucket are never brought down to the dishwasher. The maids just use one of those sponges that have a handle filled with dishsoap and swish them out in the bathroom sink. :scared1: I will never use those glasses again. If the hotel doesn't provide plastic cups, I will go buy my own.
