Beds vs sofabeds in DVC rooms

Are there any one-bedroom units anywhere where the bedroom itself has more than one bed?

Do any studios have two beds (rather than one bed and one sofabed) besides OKW? Do all the OKW studios have two actual beds?

How much does the quality of the sofabeds vary from property to property? Which (if any) have the dreaded bar that digs into your back?

Thanks!

No

No, I think there are a few OKW studios that have 1 bed and pull-out.

My ds has slept on the pullout in AKV, BLT, BC, SSR, THV, OKW - he said the most comfortable was BLT and AKV (but then again those were more recent stays) He said the least comfortable was OKW and BC (but those were also trips around 2005-7).

This is incorrect. All OKW studios have two queen beds. There are none with one bed and a sofa bed.

There are no DVC 1-BRs with two beds in the bedroom and there are no sofa beds with the bar. All of the sofa beds are about the same quality although there are a few different styles. I find them to be just as comfortable as the regular beds.

There are some sofa beds at OKW (in the one bedroom and larger units) that still have the bar. During the refurbishment, the re-upholstered the older sofa beds and replaced the mattresses if they they were still in mechanically good shape. Those beyond practical repair were replaced with the newer "no bar" sofa sleepers.

There are at least three different types of sleeper sofas at DVC. One, the older style with the bar in a few locations (scattered around). Two, the type that flips from the back and the cushions stay attached to support the foot of the bed (found at BCV and BWV) - this type has a real mattress on it. Three, the platform type with a three section memory foam pad on it (found at most of the DVC resorts) and it is hard.

Slept on all of them, hated them all equally. Honestly I would rather stay home than sleep on one.

Yeah this is what I'm dreading. I'm not that picky, but I can't stop thinking that, if I encountered something like this, my vacation would be pretty much ruined :\

If you stay in a resort that has the sleeper chair, 1 bedroom and larger at OKW, AKV and BLT, I've found them to be more comfortable than most of the sleeper sofas. Just be careful turning over at night, they are single sized.

For studios, OKW does have the 2 queen beds in every studio.

I really, really wish they would make this available in more studios. Love the value of renting points for a studio, but don't want to give up having my own bed. Unfortunately OKW is pretty low on my list of places that appeal to me, style-wise. Sigh.

I just slept on the chair sleeper at BLT for 5 nights last week and slept like a baby every night. I could not believe how comfortable it was. (and I am 64 years old) did not try the sofa, because the chair bed was so nice.

Most members prefer the bed/sofa set up in studios. Some were demanding that OKW switch over. Personally, I prefer the 2 real beds. I'm sorry you don;t care for OKW. It is my favorite...hard to beat the huge rooms, and Olivia's is IMO one of the best onsite restaurants, offering a nice selection. Plus OKW is convenient to Downtown Disney if I want something different.

I have slept on sofa beds several times, and the biggest problem is falling asleep. The creaking gets on my nerves very fast! However, they are comfortable as far as sleeping. I've learned to take ear plugs... that helps alot.

I'm not a fan of sofa beds for SITTING. They are horribly uncomfortable to sit on! The sofa beds at HHI are the worst for sitting - you start to slide off as soon as you sit down!

For extended stays no sofa isn't bad - but for extended stay, a bed and sofa is far better than two beds.

I just wish they would invent a sofa bed that was comfortable as a SOFA and a BED!

Yeah, I'm sure the ones who prefer the bed/sofa configuration are the ones that get to sleep in the actual bed! :rolleyes2

in "timeshare land", studios are usually intended for couples...maybe stretching to include a small child or 2 with the sofabed, but mostly just for couples. i get that for non-timeshare people, a lot of people think of DVC studios as an alternative to a hotel room, so sleeping up to 4 adult-sized people is expected. but back in timeshare land, if you wanted to sleep 4 adult-sized people, you'd generally be looking at a 2BR to have the space to stretch out.

just a bit of a conflict when expectations and intentions conflict.

i have experience with the sofabeds at SSR and BLT and thought they were fine, but i admit that i prefer the actual bed.

A lot of DVCers are empty nesters or childless - or even single. They like one bed and a couch. Many have young kids where a sofa bed isn't a big deal.

Intended for couples though they might be, for those of us who don't have the $$ to make this kind of trip more than, oh, every 20 years, the cost of a 2BR is utterly laughable. But I'm just an interloper here in "timeshare land," so what would I know?

Exactly - it's people who, no matter what, will get to sleep in a bed that like this idea. It's just my luck that I am not one of those people.

Which is one of the best marketing tools of purchasing the timeshare. It DOES make the two bedrooms affordable for many families. It also makes it affordable for those that do stay in studios and one bedrooms, we get to go to WDW and build those memories a lot more often than we would without the timeshare. A major cash outlay upfront? Yes, but overall, much more affordable in the long run. If a renter with a larger family HAS to stay in a studio to make the trip affordable, and requires two beds (and doesn't want to stay at OKW) perhaps they should instead be looking at one of the value resorts with two beds for about the same price direct from Disney. POP Century really is quite nice, I've stayed there to bookend DVC stays. And they have a great food court.

Then maybe this isn't the best idea for you. In addition to Chuck's suggestion, there are lots of offsite condos and hotels as well that have plenty of beds for a reasonable cost.

This is true, there is a lot of competition between those offsite hotels. We were once able to get a room at the Hampton Inn in Kissimmee for $30 when we drove in a day early. That was several years ago, though.
