Hi
There has been a lot of press here locally (NY) about Bedbugs infesting hotels ( even very nice onces) and apt complexes. Apparently, they are traveling in people's luggage and taking up residence where the people briefly stay and then hitching a ride on the next person's luggage and then infesting that person's home.. and so on..

So, just freaking out a little about staying anywhere but home at the moment. We had a lovely trip to DVC this Spring.. no bedbugs came home with us.. But is this a problem that is being delt with in FL or is it being prevented by spraying ( roach spraying does nothing to bedbugs). Would Disney even admit to a problem at its hotels etc if there were??

Just being a worry wort....
Thanks

Thanks to the previous post about bedbugs (link in the reply above mine), I was able to accurately diagnose that we had bedbugs just last month on a trip to the beach. We go annually to a condo over on Indian Rocks Beach (not far from our home). Upon awakening in the AM, I saw specks of blood on the sheets in the master bedroom. I remembered the post about the bedbugs and began searching futher. After finding about 15 bugs and bagging them, my DH went promptly to the office. This was Father's Day weekend and the complex was totally full. No other 2 bedrooms. We finally accepted a 1 bedroom because the kids were in tears thinking we would have to go home.

Come to find out that the unit was infested back in March from someone who had come from Orlando (been to visit the parks, then to the beach for R&R). They have had the unit "treated" 4 different times and were "promised" that the bugs were gone.

After reading about them further, I think they will have to throw away the funiture in this one room, get rid of the carpet, etc. They are extremely hard to get rid of.

Now, I must say that this is a place we have visited every year for the past 8 years. We always have several units
since we take extended family. It is very clean and we have never had any type of problem. This totally freaked us out and we will never accept a room anywhere again before looking in the bed.

Just goes to show that the info you get on these boards can help - even when not at WDW.

I am sure this is something that WDW is looking out for. With all the tourists they get each day, I can imagine they have had to have seen a few bedbugs. They must have something in place to look out for and treat ASAP. At least I sure hope they do.

And to get this back on DVC topic. I would hate to think what a major infestation would do to our dues if an outbreak occurred at one of our DVC buildings.

Happy Travels,
Lissa
