Bedbugs.

This could get lengthy, so here's the short question:

If I am letting Magical Express handle my luggage to the Fort (and delivered to my cabin), is there any way possible to request (and expect that my request will be carried out) that the luggage be left outside or put into the bathtub.

The lengthy version:

I've been researching bedbugs. There are hundreds of reported cases at WDW, so I'm just being diligent to inspect for them before my family or my luggage goes inside the cabin. And YES...I am very clear on the fact that bedbugs are not an indication of dirty accomodations and I am NOT trying to be desparaging toward WDW. Bedbugs are everywhere from 1 star motels to 5 star hotels.

So is there a way to make this request or is it too much to ask? I don't have the means to handle my own luggage as it will be quite a wide gap of time between arrival and check-in.

Thanks
Joe

Okay, so about handling my own luggage from MCO...I bring it to the driver at ME and then I can retrieve it when we get to the fort? And then officially check it in at the fort for them to hold it for me? I mean, can I do it this way...is this the process and will they hold it?

They will hold it at bell services, from there they will shuttle it to the cabin when you're ready.

Don't know if this will make you feel anymore at ease, but I just looked FW up on the bed bug registry and there have not been any cases there reported.

That's very good thinking, I'd absolutely ask them to hold the luggage at bell services.

Take a jar with you, if you find some big enough, catch'em and try'em for bait ! :lmao:

Hey Denise,

When you say that they'll hold the luggage at bell services, is this upon our request to handle our own luggage from the airport or will the Magical Express tag process land our luggage at bell services until we get there at check-in time for us and our luggage to be shuttled to our cabin together. I mean, I'd rather ME handle my bags from MCO to FW.

Everyone else,

The bedbug registry doesn't show any reported cases at FW, but there is a bedbug thread somewhere on the resorts board that had at least one FW claim. I'm not really freaking over it. I just feel better knowing how to identify the bugs, their babies, their eggs and most of all, their poop. I watched about 20 youtube videos on how to be diligent with bedbugs.

The biggest thing that I learned is that you can get them on your clothing in places like your airplane seat or the backseat of a cab and carry them into your house to start the infestation. I haven't yet informed the family that nobody will be entering our house with clothes on after we return from vacation...I don't want to get them all freaked out before we even leave, so I'll kindly wait until we arrive back at the house and then break it to them. Just a few precautionary measures and we'll be fine.

Thanks,
Joe

Are you saying you don't want ME/WDW to handle your luggage from the airport to FW ?
If you have a rental car you can just pick up your luggage from the carousel and not use ME at all.

Thanks for mentioning the registry. I am headed into New York City next week (celebrating my sister's 50th birthday), and wanted to check up on the hotel we are staying at. New York City had bedbugs everywhere last summer. Shoe stores, theaters, you name it, were shut down. Some of the hotels now rent dogs that sniff out bedbugs.

Sorry, lets start over. We will be on the ME bus no matter what (no rental car) From what I understand, you could leave the ME tags off of your luggage if you choose to grab them off the MCO baggage carousel yourself and hand them to the ME driver, which allows you to take them off the bus yourself to have your luggage prior to your official check-in if you need to get things out of your luggage, like a swimsuit prior to actually checking in.

Conversely, you could put the ME tags on your bag in your home town and will not see that luggage again until you walk into your guestroom at WDW. Or at least this is my experience from staying at Poly.

I want to know if I put my ME tags on my luggage, will they handle the retrieval of my bags at MCO and do all the luggage handling, but instead of putting them in my cabin, they will wait for us to check-in and then drive us and our luggage to our cabin at the same time.

Thanks,
Joe

The Disney's Magical Express guest services phone number is 866-599-0951. Let us know what they say.

Obviously my question has inconvenienced you and I am very sorry about that. Sure, I could have called them, but thought I'd ask here for the sake of other's learning from my question and because I find that experience from those that have actually stayed at FW trumps information that you can get from many CMs over the phone.

I know that my question started reaching the point where it just created more questions, but if you don't know the answer or don't care to answer, why not give someone else a shot at answering before brushing me aside.

Before now, I was actually starting to feel welcomed here.

I think I gave you the info you wanted. This is what I saw when I stayed at the fort for 9 months. The Magical Express would come to the Fort and drop off guests and their luggage. The guests would go to the front desk to check-in and the bell hop would unload their luggage. After the guest checked in the bell hop would load the guest and their luggage in a van and take them to their cabin.

Thanks Discamper,

I kinda got this idea from your previous post, but then got to thinking about how Disney says (at least for other resorts) that your luggage can take up to 3 hours to be put in your room. That made me think that I would show up with my luggage on the same bus, but it would take them awhile to sort through everyone's luggage.

So, if Fort guests are attached to their luggage, but cannot check-in, they can leave their luggage at Bell Services (the outpost) until they return at their check-in time....and then all of us and our luggage will be carted to our Cabin, right?

If that does happen you can just ask them to keep your luggage at the outpost until you call them. I have seen people check in at 6am and their cabin is not ready so they leave their luggage at the outpost and go to the parks and get their stuff later. I can tell you this be prepared to sit on the bus a long time. People I talk to said they were the last stop coming from the airport and the first pick up.

Waiting on the bus for all other stops doesn't sound so great, but it's Disney World...wating on a bus isn't all that bad when you're at WDW. Any advice on check in? Do they have online check-in? We are checking in on a Tuesday morning, so we could possibly be the only people on the bus.
