Bed splitting on the Wonder?

I've read that the only ship that still can split the queen bed into two singles. Can this still be done? If so do we contact someone in advance to have them do that if we want the bed done that way. I'm traveling with a 13 yr old boy and he doesn't want to sleep on the couch... saw an article that said they can split the bed and wondered if this might be a solution for us.

Thanks for any info.

No longer. DCL "updated" the beds on the Wonder while she was still cruising before she headed to the west coast for Alaska.

All rooms now have a queen bed (non-splittable) and a sofa bed. Some rooms also have a bunk bed over the sofa, or a murphy bed.

Thanks for the update. How do I find out if there is a bunk or murphy bed in our cabin?

It would take a little research. How many people are booked in your room? What category?

Or, maybe, your room is here:

one note, just look up your room number, regardless of what ship it's listed under. For some reason they lump all the same room numbers together.

I haven't actually went on a DCL cruise yet so if I am wrong, someone please correct me, but I believe the back of the sofa pulls down to make a bed. So its not like actually sleeping on a couch but more like sleeping on the murphy bed or bunk bed. There didn't appear to be the back of the couch annoying you like it does when you are usually sleeping on a couch nor is there the armrests to deal with. Can someone please confirm or deny this? Like I said I have only seen pictures and videos.

Tell the 13-year-old that Disney told you that he has to sleep on an air mattress. ;)

I was going to suggest a twin air mattress. Easily packable, inflatable and can be easily stored.

The sofa bed is quite comfortable. It is a regular mattress that is in the back of the sofa. As others have said, the back pulls forward and down to expose the mattress. I've slept on it and found it to be just fine.

Also, 13yos don't get to choose where they sleep. The people paying for the trip get to choose. :)

My tall 13 year old DD did just fine on the sofa bed. She is even going to sleep on it at 14! Again, she doesn't get a choice. ;)

I may be in the minority, but the new beds are SO much more comfortable than the split beds were. I'd be taking the big bed and putting the kid on the sofa bed. That said, I'll be sleeping on the sofa bed on an upcoming cruise--as others have said, it's not bad at all.

Just got off the Wonder for its 14 day repo and sailed with my 23 year son who is 6'1. We took turns sleeping on the sofa bed as I felt bad he would be so cramped but it actually was very comfy! Not at all what you would imagine a sofa bed to be! Maybe you could suggest doing this with your son?

Just off the wonder last week. The new bed is so comfortable. Share the bed with my mom, and she didn't even feels anything when I came to bed late.

We are a family of three and my teen son always gets the "extra" bed. We've sailed with three different cruise lines and the DCL sofa bed is by far his favorite. It is the only one where he gets a real mattress. It is hidden in the back of the coach and tips down like others have said. Princess is an old fashion pullout sofa bed with a mattress barely an inch thick. We always get a ceiling bunk with Princess in order to get him a real mattress. Norwegian calls their couch a futon. At night they put sheets on the extra large couch cushions. I wasnt impressed but son slept ok.

I agree with the others. Just off 14 nights on the new Wonder and the bed and the couch were both incredibly comfortable. We were well rested, so its not like we were so tired that a pile of rocks would have been acceptable either.

Can my wife plug her flat iron in on the Wonder? I know on the Dream/Fantasy it is no problem but we haven't been on the Wonder yet.

"Flat iron"? Is that for hair? Yes. If it's for pressing clothes - no.

Sorry, I'm old school. I should have said curling iron. Thank you for the answer and just to clarify I met will she be able to plug it directly in or does she need an adapter.

Outlets onboard the Wonder are the same as the Dream/Fantasy.

You will have to plug it in at the desk/vanity, the plugs in the bathroom will not operate curling irons.
