Bed sheets

I am in desprite need of new bed sheets, we have 2 sets right now, and my favorite most comfy ones are getting ready to rip (We've had them for 16 years).

I have no idea what thread count they are because the tag is gone.

Can anyone recommend thread counts?

The higher the thread count the better. If you buy sheets from overstock you can get medium high thread count for very reasonable prices. We have a king sized bed with mostly 600 tc sheets but we have one set of 1000 tc that is heavenly and it only cost me $100 which is what I would pretty much pay for regular sheets at a regular store.

I recently read somewhere that you spend 1/3 of your life in your bed, so you ought to be comfortable. That really struck a chord with me. So, from now on, I'll be buying the best sheets and softest, warmest blankets I can reasonably afford. I would look for sheets with at least a thread count of 300.

Sheets are one thing I splurge on.

I like the Ralph Lauren 350 thread count Supima Cotton sheets.

I also like any Calvin Klein shhets-they are very soft.

Wamsutta has great sheets! Bed Bath & Beyond had a sale years ago on this brand, and I had a coupon for some % off at BB&B. So, we splurged and bought expensive sheets. I am so spoiled now. I love my sheets. They are 600 thread ct. and are Sateen....sooo sooofftt.

By nature, I'm a sleepyone and I love sleeping so, these sheets are worth it for me.

400 count or better is preferable, never, ever get sheets with any polyester in them.

Egyptian or Supima cotton is preferable since the threads are shorter and softer. I hate jersey sheets because they pill, and the thread count on them is very low.

Bought a pair for my kids once and they ended up being used as painting drop cloths because they weren't comfy.

The high thread count sheets also get softer the more you wash them.

Now, the best bed ever made is the Original Mattress Factory Orthopedic pillow top bed, made right here in Atlanta. Once I got one of those, I HAD to get good sheets for it. And it was totally worth it!

I bought some J.C.Penney sheets.. And they are not that soft. On top of that, they are already starting to feel rough, like they are getting little 'pills'....

So, watch out for the Penney's sheets!

I am looking for suggestions for nice sheets too.

Minimum 400 count in Egyption cotton, preferably 600-800 count. Personally I can't tell the difference between 800 & 1000, but there is a big jump in price.

Egyptian cotton seems to wear best and gets softer while not feeling "mushy" as it ages.

Thread count isn't everything. I have read that the quality of the cotton is what really matters. You can get a lower count if you have a quality cotton. Twenty something years ago, just about every sheet set I bought was wonderful and they were rarely over 200 thread count. Nowadays, I've bought 600 thread count and they've been horrible, while others have been fine. So it dependant on the quality. I've had good luck with Wamsutta but ONLY the ones purchased at Bed, Bath, and Beyond and not the sets that Marshall's/TJ Maxx sells.

Costco sells some Ralph Lauren sets that have a high thread count. Been there/done that, they aren't nice, at least not to me.

So, it's all very daunting.

Our favorite sheets are 350 thread count egyptian sateen sheets. Wonderfully soft and have lasted for about 4 years now. I have another set coming that I just bought off of ebay for $45.00 and they came with free shipping. I agree that sateen is the best sheet for comfort. They feel like sheets you've had forever that are soft and comfy.

We got 800 thread count sheets from JC Penney's and they are the best! They are soft and smooth. I think they were originally $300 and we got them on sale for $150. Never again will I buy cheap sheets, it's worth spending the extra money. You spend 25% of your life in bed! I have seen some pretty affordable soft 750 count sheets at Bed Bath and Beyond. I almost bought a set myself. Feel them before buying them!

I buy all my sheets from Lands End. They have some reasonably priced sheets, which I get for the kids, and some really luxurious sheets, which I get for myself. Plus the return policy is great.

I get 300 count Egyptian Cotton sheets from JC Penney's. So soft that you can't even believe it. And they wear very, very well. On sale you can get a queen set for about $50 or so.

I've worked for a linen store before so I've seen all sorts of sheets, different materials, threat counts etc. My advice, don't even look at the packaging when you're buying sheets. Look for a sample sheet or an open package to fell the sheet. Everyone has different tastes. And most importantly, a poorly made sheet set with a high thread count is more likely to rip and tear than a decent sheet set with a 200 thread count. So, go with what you like, not what is "cheap" at the moment cause sometimes you get what you pay for.
