Bed configuration in Cat 2 & 3

I've been looking into the bedding configurations in the Cat. 2 and 3 staterooms and I have a question. In all of the lower categories the drawing on the official Disney site shows a queen bed with a dashed line down the middle and the descriptions states that the room has "one queen bed or 2 twin beds". Ok, I understand moving the queen bed apart to make the 2 twins. Now, if you look at the drawings for the Cat 2 and 3 you see the same queen bed with dashed line down the middle but the description only states "one queen bed". My question to all of the experts here..... can anyone who's stayed in a Cat 2 or 3 tell me if the queen bed can be split? I'm trying to figure out if a Cat 3 would work for 4 people who would not like to share beds.

How pitiful is this...planning a future cruise when I've still got 98 days until my next 7 day Western

We stayed in 8048 (cat 3) and I don't think there would have been room to make it into 2 twin beds. There was only 1 headboard and I don't know if you could move either of the nightstands. Even if you could split the queen bed, there may not be room to bring the murphy bed down out of the wall with 2 beds. I've never stayed in a cat 2, but from the pictures on www.castawayclub.com, it looks like there are 2 twins and a pull down bunk in the 2nd bedroom, along with the queen in the master bedroom.

Thanks for the reply......now I'm really confused. I didn't know there is a murphy bed in the Cat. 3s. I saw that some Cat. 3 sleep 5 but I was assuming that there was a bed that pulls out of the ceiling in the living area that would accommodate the 5th person. There is a murphy that pulls out next to the queen in the bedroom? Is it between the queen bed and the verandah?

I really am trying to avoid spending more to get a Cat. 2 that I know will allow each of the 4 people their own bed, as opposed to getting a Cat. 3. If they would give us a Cat. 3 that slept 5 so each of the 4 people would get their own bed it would work....but I don't think Disney will do that.

Thanks again!

The Cat. 2 can sleep up to 7 people. We have stayed in both Cat. 2 (8016 and 8516). The master bedroom is a queen. I do not know if the queen bed can be split -- I don't know that there is room enough to do so. My 3 boys slept in the second bedroom in two twins (that can be put together as a queen) and there is one upper bunk. The sofa bed could probably accomodate 2 young children. I don't know that adults would feel comfortable sleeping on this. HTH

I think some of the cat 3 rooms are configured a little differently. Room 8048 is mid-ships and yes, the murphy bed was between the queen bed and the door to the verandah in the master bedroom. The room could sleep 5, because the sofa bed is a queen size sofa bed.

Hi Chicklady! There are four cat3 mid ship-around the cat 1 suites-that have a pull down bed (murphy bed) in the living room area, near the verandah. The bedroom has one queen sized bed, i am under the impression that it cannot be seperated.

The other cat 3s on the ship have the murphy bed in the bedroom. Again, near the verandah.

Good luck in your planning!

Hi Chickenlady--I just got off the phone with DCL-this is a quote:
"All the queen size beds can be seperated into two twins"

So I guess you can go ahead and save some money by booking the cat 3!

We were in Cat 3 in room 8032. The bedroom had a queen. The living room had a double sized sleeper sofa and a Murphy Bed. Even if the queen had been two twins "pushed together" (which it wasn't) it couldn't have been seperated, there was no room to move the nightstands, they were both firmly pushed up against the wall on oneside and bookcase on the other. So there were three, and only three beds in that cabin.

One other idea--Not sure, but it might be less expensive to get a Cat 3 with a connecting Cat 4 than the Cat 2. Something worth looking into.

Wow!!!!! I knew you guys would be able to help. Thanks for all the info!!!!!! I just love planning vacations.

Ok I called DCL back. I just had to know what the deal is with the queen bed. The rep said yes all queen beds on the ship can be seperated. I asked her what do they do with the end tables. She said they put one in between the twin beds.

This is what DCL says. I guess they could be giving out incorrect information.

I wonder if the beds in some of the Cat 3's can be seperated while others can't? The layout in the four midship cabins is much different than teh others.

So ducklite's new job is to find out, from a reliable source, whether or not

chickenlady, since your 4 don't want to share beds, dropping a category or even two, but still getting connecting room would definitely save you money. Unless you're all looking to use up all the wonderful space you'll have in the 3. Good luck, and let us know what you decide.
