Bed Clothes?

I've never heard them called bed clothes. I just call them sheets, blankets, and comforters. When I think of bed clothes, I think of actual clothes you wear to bed.

Oh I had to laugh at this because my DH calls them "bed clothes" and I had NO IDEA what he was talking about when we first got married and said that.

My first thought was pajamas but in the context he said it, that didn't make any sense, so I had to ask him, what in the world are "bed clothes"?

Here's another person who thought the thread was going to be about pajama's. We've always just referred to it as bedding.

I've never heard of that, but I kind of like it!:thumbsup2 I think I'll adopt that phrase, if you don't mind...
I've always called them linens.

OP here.

I grew up in Michigan and I'm not that old - I haven't hit 40 yet. ;)
I think I got it from my grandma, too, although I'm pretty sure my mom calls them that, too.

Without having read the other replies.....

I say bed clothes. It's a term that groups everything together that goes on the bed. Sheets are sheets....Not pillowcases, mattress pads, comforters/quilts etc. If I'm gonna wash all this stuff, I say "I'm gonna go wash the bed clothes." I can't remember where I first heard the term though.:confused3

I've heard the term lots. And I've used it often also. It's funny to me that so many people haven't heard it. I thought it was a pretty common term. :confused3

I call them that. When I'm talking about the sheets or the blankets or whatever, I'll say that thing specifically, but when I'm talking about everything on the bed at once, I say bed clothes. My grandma calls them that, I guess that's where I got it from.

OP, I grew up in Boston area, and haven't hit 40 yet either, but I call them bed clothes too. Oddly enough, I was talking to my DD5 earlier today, and said something about straightening the bedclothes. She knew exactly what I meant, but DH said "Why do you call them that, Granny?"

But then, he makes fun of me for calling the living room "the parlor", which is something else I get from my Irish/French grandparents......:confused3

I call them bed clothes, too. When DH says he's going to put on his bed clothes, I find it odd and expect to to see him in a sheet.

I call them sheets, blankets..... uh bed clothes are pjs.. i guess but i have never called pjs bed clothes until now.

Although no one in my family calls them that, I've certainly heard the term. I suppose it's because I grew up with my nose in a book. I'm really surprised it's not a familiar term to more people.

I have heard the term but didn't know it referred to that. If I am lumping sheets, pillowcases, blankets together its called bedding.

That's my DH. He will make comments about how he always found speech "way back when" much more eloquent than now. He was always reading growing up (still does!). So, he will throw these phrases out at me and I just look at him :confused3 , to which his standard reply is "oh that's right, if it happened before 1980 you don't have a clue". Such a nice guy. ;)

Of course, when he used bedclothes, he thought I knew what he was talking about because he thought everyone said that.

Ok never heard them called that.

But then again, I thought my DSM was nuts when she told me she wanted a bed jacket for Christmas. My first reply was WTH is a bed jacket? LOL

Have some advise for you but they wouldn't like it here. :rotfl:

Myst

We call them linens.
I did grow up calling them linens. For us, 'bed clothes' refered more to the whole shebang: linens, quilts, coverlets, bolsters, pillows etc
Yes, we were all born & bred in the US:goodvibes
