Hi everyone!

So........ This is going to sound like a really dumb question, but can I get some details about bed bugs? :confused3

We are coming for our first ever trip to Disney, staying at WL in 4 weeks :yay::yay::yay: I have read a fair few things on the DIS about people finding bed bugs in their rooms, and getting itchy and stuff like that, but I don't really understand it - I live in Australia (well, South Africa at the moment but normally in Aus) and I have never heard of them!

Can you see them if you look in the beds? Are they kind of like fleas? Are they exclusive to beds or can they live in carpet and stuff too?

I read somewhere about people not putting their clothes away in the cupboards/drawers of the resort in case there are bed bugs there?

Again, sorry for the dumb question - I just want to be prepared and to know what to look for ;)

Thanks for any help or info everyone! :thumbsup2

Yes, people have had bedbug issues at WDW before, and they will down the road. BUT...here's what you have to remember, hundreds of thousands of guests stay at WDW with absolutely no issues whatsoever. I have 30+ WDW stays under my belt...not one bedbug. My dd, now almost 18, has had two bedbug incidents at her summer camp, over 8 years. They were dealt with.

If you are concerned, just go into the room you are assigned, and check around the night stand area..behind it, along the baseboards. Pull back the bed sheets...bottom sheet...and check along the mattress seams. That's where you'll see most of the evidence..little brown spots. If you should see anything, go back to the front desk and request a new room, and tell them why.
But again, I have never had an issue in all my stays. It just isn't that big an issue...nothing I worry about.

I have never encountered them at WDW resorts either so I wouldn't worry about it at all. Just check the room like the PP said BEFORE you take your luggage in the room or carry your luggage in and stand it into the bath tub (I read that somewhere) until you have checked. But I still think its gonna be fine:)

Thanks everyone!! :worship:

I am sure everything will be fine - you know how it always is when you are prepared!!

So excited, gonna be the best trip ever!! :yay::yay::yay:

My friends that travel a lot told me to get a blowdryer and put it on the mattress. You will see them scamper around when the air blows.!

Those are very good questions and bed bugs aren't somthing to take lightly. I do a throough check of our room.

The university of Maine has done a great informative video on how to check your hotel room for bed bugs and what they look like etc. This is the link.
