Bed bugs

This may have been discussed but I wasn't able to find it. Have there been any reports of bedbugs at All Star Sports this year?

I entered the actual hotel All Star Sports/Orlando Florida) not the WDW Resorts.

I guess it depends on how the person entered it.

GREAT, this report says they have been reported at All Star Sports, & Movies, Pop, Port Orleans...OMG I'm flying there in Oct. I can't afford to pack my own linens. Is there any kind of spray I can put in my checked luggage that will kill them. That could really ruin your vacation!!!

Packing your own linens wouldn't do you any good anyway. Bedbugs are not limited to beds. They could be in the carpet, in the baseboards, in the bed frame.

I think you'd be better off doing a thorough inspection when you enter the room and if you see anything, notify the front desk immediately so they can get you a new room. From what I've read, make sure the room is not close by as they can harbor in walls as well and shared walls means shared problems.

EVERY hotel suffers from Bed Bugs. At the casino where I work, one of the 5 star hotels had them about a month ago and had to get new beds, linens, and pillows. As long as you check the mattress, base boards, etc you can tell they are there. They leave like a dark "star" print.

And half of these reports saying that as soon as they walked into a room they got bit are fake. Bed bugs feed every few days and they do it really late at night. You do not know they bite you because they have a "number" in their saliva so you don't feel it, which is why your skin breaks out into bite marks. Believe me..I lived with these things in my room for 6 months not realizing what it was until I kept finding blood droplets on my clean linen and saw them crawling on my pillow early morning. Nightmare come true!

I'm sure Disney takes care of this problem. People come from all over the world and they can travel in luggage, so if someone has them in their home and stays in a hotel..guess what? they are not infecting that room.

You could also get them traveling. Like on a plane or in your luggage or at a store. Bringing your own linens wouldn't help anything. Check your room as soon as you get in there. If there's a problem, go back to the front desk and let them know.

Bed bugs have now been found in resturants (not heard of them being found in disney resturant) movie theaters, bars. They LOVE dark places. So it is not just the resorts we need to use caution.

Bedbugs have become a problem nation wide. It has been on the national news a number of times over the past month.
There are many international travelers to Disney, so I am not surprised to hear this information. The first thing to do upon arriving to your room is to do a bed inspection. Check around the seams of the mattress and look for small dark spots (exoskeleton of the bedbug). Google bedbugs and see images! it's really gross!

If this is the case, would it be possible to request that the bags get placed on the table or luggage rack by bell services? If yes, who would we put this request into?

We've always gotten to our room before the bags arrive from ME.

We just got back from a stay at one of the values - not Pop (after two rooms, went back to our original resort) - when you look for bedbugs - if the mattress looks brand new - make sure you check the box springs as well....

Good suggestion.

I heard a radio show with an entomologist who specialized in bed bugs. He said that, while the problem is on the rise, it's very unlikely that you will find them in your room. Best to check anyway, but I wouldn't obsess over it.

I work for an exterminator and we deal with bed bugs all the time. They are found in rooms where you rest, ie. bed rooms and living rooms. They sense the CO2 that we expell when we are sleeping and thats what draws them to us. Unfortunately they can be found just about anywhere, including inside computers, alarm clocks and TV sets. Our techs literally remove the electric faceplates and any art work placed on walls. (They even take apart the entire bed!)

I asked my boss the best place to put your luggage when traveling is in the kitchen or bathroom. If you have your linens in plastic bags inside the luggage, it will help, but will not eliminate the problem. These bugs hitchhike in the cuffs of trousers, behind buttons, in purses, etc.

I personally wouldn't worry about them until you get home because there is nothing you can do about it yourself until you are home. (You can get them when the luggage is in the airplane if someone else got them..) When you get home, keep your clothes outside in the garage, kitchen or bathroom. Then take ALL the clothes and throw them (and anything else you can) into the dryer at the highest temp. this will kill them if you got them. (then you just have to worry about what you're actually wearing... re electronics, that them and place them in a plastic bag and add some "strips" that you can get from a site like doyourselfpestcontrol.com. This should help!
