Bed-bugs!

Yes it will now be manditory to get deloused before entering the gates of WDW.

I saw a special or it may have been SWA Airplane show that a man tried to get on the plane and he was so dirty they wouldn't let him.

Well when they opened his suitcase to get fresh cloths for him hundreds of cockroaches went scurrying around the ground.

So Bugs are part of traveling

Many countries require that you are sprayed for bugs ON THE AIRPLANE before landing. My wife was sprayed entering Jamaica and got a sinus infection from the bug spray.

The airline did not tell them they were going to get sprayed with insecticide beforehand.

EDIT:
Here are the countries where passengers may encounter a mist of pesticide fogging the cabin, requiring them to breathe the poison vapor:

Argentina
Australia
Barbados
Dubai
Fiji
Grenada
India
Jamaica
Kenya
Kiribati
Madagascar
Mozambique
New Zealand
Panama
Trinidad
Senegal
South Africa
United Kingdom

I'm new to this bed bug thing too. I thought if you washed the linens in hot water and vacuumed the mattress you could get rid of them? :confused3 Or is that for dust mites? When I change my sheets at home I vaccuum the top of the mattress.

The Contemporary had them. I know one of the suites on the 14th floor had to be shut down several times.

My family thinks I'm a complete freak...b/c I Lysol & bleach our ENTIRE room (including mattress, headboard, doorknobs, light switches, toilets, tub, etc...etc...)

We just leave the room for an hour or 2 while the fumes die down (ya know, the fumes which are probably way more toxic than anything we'd contract in the room otherwise!!!):rotfl:

Anyway, I've always carried our own sheets, blankets, & pillows, but now I don't think I'll carry pillows?!?!?! Maybe we can just put the hotel pillows inside a trashbag, and then put 2 pillowcases on them? I'm sure that will be totally hot & uncomfortable, but if you knew how OCD I was about germs, you'd understand where I'm coming from. :confused3

I'm totally freaking out cuz we're staying at ASMo in June! Does anyone know the exact buildings that were infested with bed bugs? Please don't tell me it was the whole resort?!?!?! :scared:

I have a question but really can't find answer on internet. I will be staying at All Star Sports. Concerned about bed bugs. Of course I will first check the bedding when I check in. But should I wake up in the middle of the night to see if there are any bugs on me. Would that be the ultimate indicator that the room has bed bugs, i.e. do they come out every night?

oh, great....

now i'm going to be imagining bedbugs while i'm sleeping....

that's what i get for reading this thread before bedtime....

Bedbugs have become an increasing problem, not just at Disney, but at all hotels across the US. And they have appeared at every hotel from low budget to 4 and 5 star luxury hotels.

Whenever we stay at a hotel, one of the first things I do is to pull up the blankets and sheets and check in the seams and welts of the edges of the mattresses, and the mattress tag. Look for tiny black spots, smaller than poppy seeds (excrement, ewww), shed light brown skins (double ewwww!) or, heaven forbid! — live bugs :scared1: Also check the drawers and the walls on the sides of the bed. If you see powder in the drawers or on the headboard, it's likely that an exterminator has been there. I've never seen any signs of bedbugs, but I'd request another room immediately if I did -- and inspect that one just as thoroughly.

I got all this info from Trip Advisor, and similar sites. And it's helped me sleep more soundly and confidently at night, let me tell ya. :cloud9:

So when I have had a bite in bed it was not a noseeums or nat. It was a bed bug ewwwwwwwwwwww. AKL have any problems. Just bought DVC. I never even thought to look how nieve of me. So grossed out right now. yuk

No, bed bug bites look like they are pretty unmistakable -- look it up on Google. :scared1: msnbc has an excellent article on bedbugs and how to avoid sharing a room with them or bringing them home with you  Check over your room thoroughly at check in, keep your clothes in your luggage and your luggage off the floor, and you should be fine. And please realize, this isn't a Disney problem, a nice hotel vs. crummy motel problem, and it isn't an exclusively American OR international travel problem. It's just a reality of staying in rooms where lots of other people from a lot of other places stay night after night, and it's just a good idea to be prudent and check things over.

You're absolutely correct about finding bedbugs in ANY class of hotel. In NYC, bedbugs have even been found in 5 star hotels. It doesn't have anything to do with sanitary conditions of the hotel. From what I've read in the news, once bedbugs end up in your home, they are very hard (and expensive) to get rid of. I recently read about a product called BEDBUGBAGS that is supposed to protect your luggage while you travel so that you don't end up with these bugs in your home. Has anyone tried these?

We used Bedbugbags on our recent trip to Europe. It was a kit with several different sized protective bags that you put your luggage and belongings in so bedbugs won't infest your things or be brought home to your house with you. It also came with a little flashlight and an instruuction sheet on how to find bedbugs in a hotel room. i'm not sure if any of our hotel rooms had bedbugs or not, but it made me sleep easier knowing I wouldn't bring bedbugs back to my house. definately worth the 20 bucks for a peace of mind.

We stayed at SSR in Oct 06. My mother noticed she had little red itchy painful bumps around her ankles. Could that have been from bed bugs? After reading this thread, I have to wonder....:confused3
