Bed Bugs- has anyone had experience- need advice

I haven't read all the replies. But I wanted to say I know for a fact (hint hint) that Disney will do MUCH more than comp one night to help you with this bed bug situation. You must get on the phone and demand your home treated. Open up an official complaint. This could be very costly.

I agree, you should absolutely do an official complaint. I have a friend who unfortunately brought bed bugs home from a fancy NYC hotel and it cost her over 5000. To rid her home of them. A one night comp is not sufficient if you are stuck footing the bill for bed bug removal. I would call again and open a case / make a formal complaint with a manager. Good lunch and kept us posted!

This is freaking me out also. Would you mind to share what building you were in? We are preferred and were planning to request building 14. Now I'm wondering if I should try to switch resorts.
We were in 37

This wasn't from Disney, but I brought bed bugs home from a hotel in Wyoming a few years ago. We didn't realize until it was too late and ended up having to throw out our mastresses and it tooks us almost three years to get rid of them. Please, even if you don't think you have bed bugs have your house treated. Put covers on your mattresses (but check the corners first for bugs). Also check outlets and any dark crevices. They love to hide there! Take care of this before things get out of control. Sorry this happened. It's pretty crummy and I will totally be checking my room on Saturday when I check in at All Star Sports.

I wonder how likely it is that bedbugs could get from your closed luggage to your trunk. In that case you need to worry about luggage to luggage contact on an airplane, too, before you consider the hotel room.
My first concern is my house.. you may have introduced them to your house and it does't take long until your in a nightmare experience to get rid of them. My neighbor before we moved took 3 years of treatments almost monthly after throwing out anything they could live in (basically all carpets, beds, clothes, etc) several times. It's the type of thing you can end up selling a home and then have to still pay more money because the new buyers are claiming lemon laws and you didn't disclose you once had bed bugs..

When getting an exterminator, you want to find one that used a bed bug dog. They are hands down the best way to find out if you have them, they will smell them through walls and will be able to detect them long before you get any sign they are in your home..

My second concern is my cars, I had to get from airport to home, there is carpets in a car, especially the trunk where my luggage was. I'd ask the exterminator and their dog to also do a once over on the cars.

I would probably also throw out the luggage I used and any stuffed animals, even pillows I might have had there.. I would also immediately wash everything looking up online the proper way but I think it's hotter than you normally would use water. you did have your clothes with you, they got put back in with the rest. The throw out part I might wait for the exterminator to confirm but for my sanity, I think I'd have them thrown out right away.

From a family health standpoint I'd at least be on the phone with the doctors to discuss what we should do.

More than 0%. If your getting your place checked out, why not spend a few more dollars for the 5 seconds it'll take them to check out the car too.

That's how they get in your luggage on the plane. Someone brings them with them and they transfer to other places in the hold.

Realistically this would only be for carry on bags, right? Seems like the below freezing temps in the unpressurized area would kill everything.

No, bed bugs can survive below freezing for much longer than a flight. They would easily survive and transfer, AFAIK.

We recently stayed at the Best Western in Cocoa Beach (last week actually). We checked in around 4:30 pm. My husband was watching TV on the bed while my kids and I went to the beach for about an hour. When I came back to the room, I laid next to my husband and I immediately noticed a small bug crawling on the white sheets. Needless to say, we packed our stuff and we were out of the room within 20 minutes. I stopped by the Lobby to show them the dead bug, I'm not sure it was a bedbug, or at least I'm trying to convince myself that it wasn't. They credited us back our money, but that was the least of my worries! When we got home, we left our luggage in the garage and I washed the entire content of the 2 suitcases in hot water. I sprayed the luggage with the bedbug bug spray (I know, not as effective, but I'm hoping I caught the issue soon enough!), and I stored it in our attic. I am terrified that we could have brought them home with us. We do have a special cover on our mattress (it's hypoallergenic) but I am still worried and check myself every day. It's a terrible feeling!

Yup. Heat is what kills them. Very high heat. And to the previous poster, I probably would have trashed the luggage. Or left it out in the garage for a few months.

Aww that's horrible! :( So sorry you're going through this. Fortunately we never had an issue because of Disney. We did get bedbugs a few years ago after we got back from a cruise (not disney). Luckily we caught the issue right away and never needed an exterminator. It also helped that it was only our mattress that had them...OMG, I'm itching now just talking about it! We threw our mattress right out, insanely cleaned, got rid of our suitcases and never had another issue. Always always always check the beds in every hotel you stay at....no matter how much you're paying a night.

Thank you all for your feedback and concern. My parents (who we stayed with after our Disney trip- and beforehand) just confirmed that they have bedbugs in their house- they are getting treatment as well. We had our exterminator come out this past Tuesday and he didn't see any with the flashlight (we didn't have the dogs)- but recommended that we have a follow-up visit. Will keep the crew updated- but at the moment or claims rep is on holiday.

I'm so sorry this happened to you. I hope the exterminator can get rid of them quickly and I hope Disney helps you out with that.

I've read countless (countless) bedbug reports from WDW resorts that have been filed with the Bedbug registry and unfortunately the highest are from POR. For whatever reason the critters just like it there...perhaps the dark/natural wood theory is indeed correct! No amount of Pixie Dust can take away nature, SO sorry this happened to you, but know them guys everywhere...even Disney.

Very Likely! I worked for a transportation company who had several vehicles infested as well as one of the mechanics brand new home!! The company replaced furniture and had his home and vehicles treated. It is very costly. I would definitely talk to someone higher up and see if you can be reimbursed for the extermination.

It's my understanding very likely. It's been explained to me that this is why some folks wrap their checked luggage in plastic now

Please stay on disney about this. You might have to keep pushing, but they will work to make it right.

My aunt and uncle got bedbugs at Disney a couple of years ago too. My husband always checks the beds when we go to any hotel. it can be a problem anywhere! I would certainly try to get a little more assistance from them than you did though, getting rid of bedbugs is VERY expensive! My dad and his girlfriend picked them up in a hotel once and it cost them thousands of dollars (like $8K) tp get rid of them in their tiny apartment (NYC prices, but still!)
