Bed Bugs at Candy Cane Inn recently?

If anyone has new pics they want to add, they are welcome to put them on that thread if they want. :)

Me too! Just changed my reservations from the Desert Inn and Suites to the CCI, based on all the great reviews of the hotel. Can't wait to try it out during our trip April 23rd to early May! Eventhough the early parts of this thread made me a little wary, I was so happy to see the posts from the CCI Manager, and I just know we've made the right choice! Only 3.5 weeks to go!!!!

As someone who was exposed to and unfortunately brought bed bugs home from a trip to WDW I have to say that it speaks volumes that Chris from CCI took the time to reply to the concerns over bed bugs at the hotel. We essentially had to threaten legal action before we could get anyone to contact us (not a Disney hotel but off site). My best advice to everyone, as pp's have mentioned, is that since you can be exposed to them at 1 star or 5 star hotels always take precautions (as bed bugs care nothing about cleanliness - they only want your blood!). Bed bugs are introduced to hotels/motels by guests who unknowingly (hopefully) bring them in on their luggage or clothing. Check the room for any signs of bug activity, don't put your luggage on the floor, don't unpack your clothes if at all possible, and most importantly - when your trip is over and you return home, act as if you were exposed to the bugs. Don't take your suitcase in your home until it and everything in it has been inspected. I am overly cautious after our bed bug nightmare. I leave clean clothes in our garage and everyone changes before entering the house upon returning from trips. No clothes come in the house to be put away - they go straight to the laundry room to be washed and dried on HOT for at least 30 minutes after the clothes are dry. All this may seem a bit overboard but trust me, once you go through the nightmare of bed bugs and getting rid of them it changes the way you travel forever. Just wanted to pass this info along.

Chris - I think it is commendable that you took the time to post on the board. While we already have reservations for our upcoming trip, CCI will certainly be at the top of our list for our next trip! :)

Thank you tndislvr for the advise on bedbugs. Good idea on leaving clothes in the suitcase vs. unpacking. I think I'll leave me suitcase zipped up too.
When emailed CCI can made sure to mention that bedbugs can happen everywhere. A teacher I work with got them at 4 star hotel in San Francisco.
I'm really impressed with the time and effort both mangers took to address our concerns, here and in my case a personal phone call. It shows that if they ever had a problem they would be on top of it 100%.

All these comments have made me feel much better about our forthcoming stay - it's just that I have a real phobia about all types of crawly things especially ones that can climb on you when you're asleep:eek:

My main concern now is if we inspect the room when we arrive (and we will at all hotels we stay at in the future) and you see signs of these nasty little creatures (I know what to look for now)and the hotel is full (as in Spring Break) what would the hotel do? - I'd rather sleep by the pool (even after a 20 hour journey) than spend a night with these bugs.

It is very commendable that Chris came on to the board to face the music... Any hotel room can end up with these critters, they come in with previous guests and so are not introduced by any fault of the Hotel. However how they are dealt with, how quickly they are detected and how the unfortunate customer is dealt with is the issue and it would seem in this case CCI was a little lacking....

The customer should be moved immediately upon detection, if no rooms available the customer should be moved to a similar classed hotel at CCI's expense.

The room and all furniture should be sprayed, the mattress replaced

The customer credited the price of the room for one night minimum

Cleaners should always be on the lookout for the tell tale signs

Folks, I am here to say that there is nothing to worry about. Unfortunately on the internet, anyone can post anything. But, it is not always true.

I have been the Front Office Manager at the Candy Cane Inn for three years now. I can assure you all that bed bugs have not been an issue for us, for one simple reason. We do not ignore any issues we find or that are reported to us.

We are a hotel that has been in the city of Anaheim for 54 years. We are owned by a single owner and we are the ONLY hotel he owns.

If you have ever been to our hotel, you will see that even during this tough economic time that we are in, we continue to invest in our hotel upgrading and renovating the property to better serve our guests.

Anyone who has questions or concerns about staying with us can feel free to contact me directly at 714-774-5284.

Thank you all for being loyal disboard readers and for your comments about the Candy Cane Inn!

-- Chris - Front Office Manager

Thank you for taking the time to join here and post this. I am planning my family's first DLR trip ever for this June. We have reservations with you beginning 6/13, and I was caught off guard when I found this thread. Your comments have been most helpful. I look forward to staying with you, and meeting you and your staff in June.

After reading all the previous comments, CCI is still #1 choice on my list to stay for our very first trip to DL in July 2012.:wizard: I will be reading all future reviews on CCI.

I've always wanted to give the CCI a try and after reading the awesome reviews as well as a couple of bad stays at some other Harbor Blvd. motels, we decided to book CCI for our upcoming May trip for my my DS's Birthday. I too was caught off gaurd when I first saw this thread and was thinking "oh no, I don't want to have to find something else now." What a relief to see the manager post here that everything was being taken care of. It's always nice for representatives of the businesses we Disers frequent to take the time to post here.

I promise to post a review - will be staying there for a week in just over a weeks time

Looks like a few other CCI threads were also removed or had comments removed from them...

Thanks everyone for the comments. Keeping track of this thread since we are staying at CCI in June.

Since there is no evidence that there ever were any bedbugs at CCI, this thread is misleading by its very existence. Why it hasn't been locked
