Bed Bug Infestation at FW Cabins! (OLD THREAD)

Mrs.. so and so came in and she stayed at Disney fort.. because she isn't giving a name out no one is harmed.

That may be the letter of the law, but she shouldn't be talking about the clients medical conditions to her family members.

If enough information is given that could identify someone - even without a name its a violation of HIPPA. The privacy policy of the employer is another thing all together - usually much stricter than HIPPA. One of the downsides to healthcare is sometimes the most interesting things in the world just have to stay in your head. Never talk about patients - just not worth what could happen. I've seen soooo many people written up and fined and fired over the last 5 years its crazy (between the hospital and homehealth).

Seriously though, bedbugs are like lice - they can happen anytime, anywhere, to anyone.

If an outbreak is found, notification needs to be given *immediately* in order to prevent spread.

Bringing your own bedcovers, sheets, etc is also not going to do any good. Bedbugs don't only live in the bed (mattress & boxspring), they can also live in couches, curtains, even the wood frames of furniture.

All I can think of is that your mother should be fired. If I was a patient at that practice I would be mad that someone shares my medical info with their kids.

Seems like such a violation.

This time she blabs on a family with bites - (to quote the OP) "ALL OVER!".
Whats next? The kid in the class with AIDS, the pregnant teenager? Where does she draw the line?

Not in any way attacking YOU but why is it that things like this always have to be said on these threads. Her mother could have just said "I heard at work that there was this family that went to DW FWC and came back with bed bug bites". The OP maybe could have just posted ANOTHER thread about bed bugs but really the truth is when ANYONE goes to ANY hotel/resort they should check multiple things before they unpack. Beds, drawers, shower fawcett for CLR stains, ETC.

When I get to Disney I will check all then check to make sure that I am not dreaming and that I am really at WDW!!!!

In general, I'm thinking the OP was trying to be helpful. I, for one, appreciate the reminder to be vigilant in checking the usual places for bedbugs before settling in. We don't all word things the same way so I have no opinion about how she worded her thread but am taking it in the spirit I'm imagining it was intended.

This thread title is more than a little sensationalistic. The title makes it sound like folks from all over FW are reporting bed bugs.

A report of a family possibly having bedbugs at FW would be more appropriate.

I totally agree with this! The subject line totally makes it feel like the whole place is just crawling with them. ONE case does not constitute an infestation.

Not just about the subject line but how does the OP or even her mother know that this family did not get the bed bugs (if that was really what it was) from somewhere other than Disney?? It is possible the family could have slept somewhere else and picked them up. Or it is possible they got bit by something at Disney.

I know when we were at the Cabins Last June my sister and I got bit by something on our legs that itched bad. It was not bed bugs (we really checked) but more like some of the nasty flies they have there. Took a while for them to heal too.

If it was bed bugs and not other biting bugs, they should have been reported to Disney. Then they could have taken care of it immediately. Did the family have one of the bugs that bit them? The mosquitos are pretty bad in Orlando with the heat right now. Could have also been no-see-ums.

My family and I stayed in the area last year, one hotel that we stayed at my wife and I were covered with bites in the morning. Now when I travel I take a good look at the mattress and head board before I lay down.

I have considered carrying my own bed bug sheets but did not want the extra weight, so I will just do a good inspection first.

Bedbugs are alive and well at Disney Resorts, other hotels, movie theaters and in stores all across the U.S. - always best to be careful when traveling and learn how to prevent bringing the critters home.

Why not just start a new thread if you had problems. Otherwise, you are just scaring people. Disney takes care of any bedbugs that are reported to them. And they take care of those guests as well.

I am not the one who bumped this thread - just answered a question with an honest answer.

I certainly did not imply that Disney does not take care of any guest or room where bedbugs have been found, but they have no control over the bedbugs being brought into a room....any guest can carry in bugs or eggs and not even know it, then the next guest can take them home. The U.S. has a bedbug infestation now, so it just requires us to be cautious.

It has nothing to do with scaring people - it is reality. Personally, I'd rather take precautions that bring the critters home - it is devestating and very costly to rid them from a home.

Hi - Welcome to the DIS.

Feel free to start a new thread about your experiences if they were at Disney Resort. If they were at another area hotel, then you should post those experiences in the "ORLANDO AREA RESORTS" board.. which is for non-Disney hotels.

I'll be closing this thread here since it is over a year old and will spark unnecessary fears among folks currently booked into those cabins.
