My mother works here in So Fla for a pediatrician, she honestly just called me knowing we are going up this weekend she said: a family came in to see the doctor today with bed bug bites ALL OVER! They came back last night from FW and stayed ina cabin. They had to send them home with a letter so they can contact Disney for further complaint and such. Just thought I'd share with people going there soon...I"m packing plastic bed covers and our own sheets just in case. We are staying at POR....

If it was bed bugs and not other biting bugs, they should have been reported to Disney. Then they could have taken care of it immediately. Did the family have one of the bugs that bit them? The mosquitos are pretty bad in Orlando with the heat right now. Could have also been no-see-ums.

Yes, have them call Disney right away so they can inspect the cabin. I had a relative come back from a business trip covered in bites, went to doc, told him it was bed bugs, etc. The hotel had the room inspected (with receipts and/or some report as proof) and there were no bed bugs found. It can be hard to tell one type of bite from another because not everyone's immune response is the same. I think the fact that someone comes back from a hotel with bites makes the doc error on the side of caution (so the hotel can fix the problem if it exists).

On the other hand, I go into every hotel room (anywhere) assuming there may be bed bugs and inspect the beds as well as I can.

Just curious why you'd want to bring your own sheets? I wouldn't want to put anything extra on the bed that I'd be bringing back into my house. Unless you are zipping the entire mattresses in coverings made for that purpose, I don't think it's worth the effort. And, again, I then wouldn't want to turn around and bring the mattress covers back to my house. As it is, all of our clothes go into plastic bags and straight into the wash when we get home. And then I still worry about the car, the clothes we have on, etc...

I hate thinking about bed bugs....ew.

Have a nice trip, btw! We loved POR. Our favorite so far!

:scared1:We just came back Sunday from the cabins!:scared1:

Where, I assume, you had no bed bugs. Right? We've got a Cabin reserved for next month. I'll take precautions and look at all the beds before we unpack, but I think the fact that you just got back with no problem is a good sign. Not a scary sign.

This thread title is more than a little sensationalistic. The title makes it sound like folks from all over FW are reporting bed bugs.

A report of a family possibly having bedbugs at FW would be more appropriate.

Yes, there weren't ANY bedbugs where we stayed. I don't think attacking the OP with supposed "sensationalism" is necessary though...and YES, bedbugs are SCARY! I know a family that paid THOUSANDS to get rid of them and purchase all new furniture because of ONE bad hotel choice. Not something I would care to deal with AT ALL!

I think "bed bug" + "infestation" + "!" is enough to make a lot of people on these boards to go, no pun intended, overboard. I actually think I made it a whole month without a panicked post on bed bugs at Disney world. Until now.

I agree that bedbugs are scary. I sure wouldn't want to deal with them.

When I saw the title of this thread, I got worried because we're booked there next month. However, I believe what we've heard is that someone who knows someone who treated someone who stayed at FW has insect bites on their legs and that those bites might have been bed bugs. Then, when I saw your post, I was relieved.

The only "pest" I had to deal with there was my 11yo DD bedHOG! :rotfl2:

Seriously though, bedbugs are like lice - they can happen anytime, anywhere, to anyone.

If an outbreak is found, notification needs to be given *immediately* in order to prevent spread.

Bringing your own bedcovers, sheets, etc is also not going to do any good. Bedbugs don't only live in the bed (mattress & boxspring), they can also live in couches, curtains, even the wood frames of furniture.

Exactly! :thumbsup2
The people I know had them EVERYWHERE. They even get into the wall outlets, screw holes of the beds, etc.

Any idea which cabin? We were there just 2 weeks ago without incident. Not even a mosquito bite.

Bed bugs can be in one room of a hotel and not infest the other rooms. I always inspect the mattress before settling into a hotel room.

I agree that the title to this thread could be misleading. As you said, this is one of those "someone who knows someone who went to WDW and stayed at FW had a problem"-type of titles.

This is not to minimize bedbugs, but there is no proof stated that bedbugs were involved.

Yep unless you actually seen a bed bug you do not know what bit them.

Exactly! Could have easily been no-see-ums (or any one of a dozen bugs that are so pevalent down here in the South). Appreciate the OP warning everyone to be leary though.

if this was a real bed bug infestation then using your own sheets and having a plastic cover really wouldn't help. they infest not only the mattress, but the carpet, headboard, bed frame, etc. like everyone says, inspect the room beforehand and if you notice anything request another room immediately.

I was just thinking the same thing......

I certainly don't think I'm attacking anyone. I was suggesting the thread title is a bit misleading.

Saying there is a bed bug infestation at FW when you've heard one 2nd hand account of a family maybe getting bed bugs at FW is sensationalizing IMO!

All I can think of is that your mother should be fired. If I was a patient at that practice I would be mad that someone shares my medical info with their kids.

Seems like such a violation.

This time she blabs on a family with bites - (to quote the OP) "ALL OVER!".
Whats next? The kid in the class with AIDS, the pregnant teenager? Where does she draw the line?
