Becoming Lean, Mean, Endurace Event Machines in 2008

Good Morning Lean Meaners!!!

Debra--what Vic said!!! :rotfl: I liked Fleet Feet. They helped me very much when came to being fitted for shoes and finding some that worked well for me. I know they spent about 2 hours with me and I think I tried on just about women's shoe in the store! Also the only place I've found some good support for the girls...if you know what I mean! :goodvibes

Vic--Yay for clear lungs! Should definatley make working out a bit easier on the lungs huh? Don't forget to take your meds young man! (hand on hip, pointing finger...)

For me...last night I did 2 miles on the bike in 8 mins before Step Class, which was 35 min and then 10 min of strength training. Step on the scale this morning and it's still climbing... Ugh! Yes, I am obsessed w/ the scale and cannot make myself not weigh every day. :sad2: If I still weight this much on Tuesday for the Biggest Loser weigh-in, I will be 3 lbs above "the plan." The plan is only 1lb per week too. I'm not asking for a tremendous amount here people--just 1 lb per week!

Oh, well... I hope I can just make it through the weekend!

Hope everyone has a nice one! The temps here look pretty mild. Mid 50-60s. Should make for a nice "long" run on Sunday! (My long run is 3 miles!) :lmao: Right now I am walking more than running, so let's hope I run a little more than walk this weekend!

Stacie

Stacie, are you eating enough? This is a very fine line when you are trying to lose weight by diet and exercise. Consuming enough calories is just as important as not consuming enough. You have to feed the machine so to speak. You mentioned a few posts back that you need to start a food log and I would highly suggest this for anyone trying to lose weight. It is amazing first of all, the little places that we "waste" calories and how many times we do not consume enough. When I work at home, I have no issue with not enough but when I was working outside the home, some days, I would only consume 700 to 800 calories in a day, missing lots of meals and then making up for it by snacking. Even though my snack choices were good ones, too much of a good thing is still, well, too much. Try the log just for a week and then reassess what you are doing right and wrong and try to adjust in those places. :flower3:

Lisa--Thanks. Yep. I've been thinking that. I am going to try to start logging what I eat. I don't eat huge meals, but do have a tendency to snack a lot so I'm not sure if it's too many cals or not enough. We have such a busy life a lot of times we only eat cereal for dinner. :sad2: Last night I only had a Nutri-Grain bar... 120 cals.

Thanks for the advice. Hopefully in a week or two I'll know what I need to adjust...

Stacie

My sense is that you are not eating enough. I know it sounds kind of anal (and it probably is) but I come home from the store, break out all the carrots, celery, and any fruits like cantaloupe, melon, pineapple, and cut them up and put them in serving bags, 1 cup each. My kids will grab these also for snacks so it works well for me. Anything else, popcorn, pretzels and the like, I portion out too. It has helped me immensely especially where I am home all day. Getting up and portioning out something takes too long whereas just getting up and grabbing a bag of something and a glass of water works for me.

Good luck with this and I think you will surprise yourself at the number of calories you are not eating.

Debra: Thanks for the encouragement! I am actually having a weak moment right now.....my kids have peanut butter Captain Crunch on the counter from breakfast.....I am starving and LOVE p/b CC! I actually hopped on here to get away from it! That would definitely mess up my mo-jo!

Stacie: It is REALLY hard to stick to your guns with a healthy lifestyle when the scale is not cooperating! I say start writing everything down to see if there is hidden 'snacking' calories or maybe you are not eating enough. Lisa is right.....you have to fuel the machine!

Vic: Take your medicine!!!!!! Your heart is key to the machine! Keep it healthy and running for another 100,000 miles!

I am going to stay strong! My 42nd birthday is tomorrow, and I don't want to let my guard down. Maybe I can limit myself to a small treat! :cool1:

Everyone else.......hang in there!

Beth

Beth: First of all HAPPY EARLY BIRTHDAY!! Yay for 42!!!

Second, portion out some of the CC and look at the calories. How much can you justify today? Are you willing to give some up in another area?? When I feel weak, I ask myself, do I want an apple or carrots? If the answer is no then guess what, I am not hungry. On the flip side of that, never, never, never deny yourself cravings. Have a little. Denying causes breakdown in your willpower. If nothing is off limits it becomes your choice whether to have it or not.

Hey all :goodvibes

Yesterday was a crash and burn :guilty: :guilty: :guilty: :guilty:

Sweet day at work and I didn't handle it well. Today I'm back on the wagon so far :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

WISHing you all an on plan weekend :wizard: :wizard:

Hi all, Happy Morning!!!!

Stacie....I've been reading alot of comments about people buying....uh....support from Fleet Feet. I think I'm going to head up there to take a look. My only question is that some of these look like they have zippers in front. I'm not sure that would be comfy for me. So, I guess, without getting too personal, I'm asking if you went with a zipper or traditional? And if you went with a zipper are they comfy? Vic, you didn't read that did you?:scared:
Vic... Yay for you with healthy lungs.:cheer2: Now take your meds and give you Dr. something else to fuss over instead.
Lisa...Thanks for the making the suggestion for bagging up the cut up fruits, vegs, snacks, etc. I usually cut them up and put them in large containers, but bagging them is a great idea.
Beth....Happy, Happy, Birthday!!!!:cake: pixiedust: ( a day early)
Minnie....We all have bad days. Today is a brand new day. Way to get right back on plan.

Debra said:
Hard to fall off the wagon when there's no wagon waiting to take you for a ride. (Hmmm, not sure that's the phrasing I want to use....)
:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

On Valentine's Day, we always have a nice dinner in the dining room with candlelight. It was so nice!!!! Today.....all four boys are home for a 4 day week-end. So my house is loud and rowdy----I kinda like it that way. Now, if we can make it to Tuesday without anything being broken (including bones) we'll consider ourselves very lucky. It's kind of like a big wrestling match.:rotfl2: I may have to slide on my plan and have a glass of wine. What? It's only 9:30? Oh, my!
Have a great day all!

Since I may not get online tomorrow, just wanted to say......

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BETH!
party: :bday: :cake: :bday: party:

And take your medicine, Vic!

Tracey,

Mine is regular--well, w/ like 4 or 5 clasps in the back. I don't remember if I even tried on a zipper one. It has adjustable velcro straps, which worked nice since I'm a bit short. I actually wear a totally different size in a sports bra than regular. I'll see if I can find the name of mine and I'll let you know.

Thanks Lisa and Jeanne for the Happy Birthday.....let's just say it's a birthday and I don't have to be happy about it, right??? Just kidding......actually I feel much healthier and happier in my forties than I ever felt in my thirties! I guess that' something!:goodvibes :goodvibes

I am.....well, a bigger up top kind of girl JustSmile, and I don't think I could wear a 'supporter' that zippered! That could be some kind of natural disaster! :scared1: The one that gives me the most 'bang' for my buck (so to say) is a Champion with an underwire and 3 hooks in the back. I just wore it yesterday for the first time since my marathon, and I was really surprized in how much support it gave me, and was pretty comfortable. I got it at Dicks for about 25 dollars.

Well, it's off to the races.....actually youngest ds's basketball game. I will try to stay on plan today. Oh, yeah.....my birthday indulgence last night was a few hard pretzels and dip! I didn't eat alot yesterday, since I had taken 2 Excendrin with diet Coke before my long run yesterday and got violently ill afterwards.....so the pretzels turned into my dinner! For low carbing the last month and a half, pretzels tasted really good!

Beth

OK...I found it. The name brand is Movin Comfort. I got mine at Fleet Feet, but I also saw them at Dick's sporting Goods last night. They have a few different styles. I had to go up in bandwich one or two sized and down in cup size by two sizes...Weird, but it worked! Good luck!

Stacie

First, HAPPY BIRTHDAY BETH!

I hope the day is filled with love, joy, and all your heart's desire! :cloud9: I hope you enjoy DD's game, are feeling fine, and stay on plan if that's the plan for today. Happier & healthier is the best present there is!

Vic: Good news on the lungs! :thumbsup2 But don't make the rest of us start fussing at ya 'bout those meds.

Stacie: Thanks for the feedback on Fleet Feet. (Every time I hear it I think Farm Fleet for some reason.) You know what I say. When my girls are happy, I'm happy. Okay, I don't really say that--but it's still true. I hope your LR was in sunny, mild weather & involved lots of running. Oh, about the scale...when I weigh myself every day (I try not to because it drives me crazy), I tend to go up and down the entire week. So the reading on my official weigh-in day is always a surprise to me.

Lisa: I'm so glad you're here on WISH and drop by this thread occasionally. You're always filled with positive thoughts and good information. You tell me things I know, should know or should remember, and give me new insights! I love your reminder about portioning out everything in advance, all at once. :yay: And Stacie, I second Lisa's suggestion about a food log; I use SparkPeople & it really helps me to remain conscious about those wasteful little calories and trying to eat a consistent amount/variety of foods every day. Lisa, you should work for SP!!!

Minnie: Man, those wagons keep coming and going, going and coming... Anyway, congratulations for picking yourself up, dusting yourself off, and moving right along.

Tracey: I just can't do the zippers, and not because of any support issues. That stuff just reminds me of the '80s too much. I lived through it once, it wasn't pretty, and I'm going to repress as much of it as possible. Your Valentine's Day dinner and weekend sound delightful. Have fun this weekend.

As for me: Well, I bagged my C25K training yesterday because I had to finally admit my knee ached. I gave it another day's rest with some verrrrry light XT (I was already at the gym), and pouted for the rest of the day. That's because my attitude toward running is so darned mature. Anyway, another day of icing, some ibuprofen, and a redesigned workout schedule had me feeling much better today. So I managed to complete my C25K schedule of 20 minutes running straight! I haven't done that in months, since before I decided on a RW for the Goofy. Anyway, I took it slow and easy on what I'm generously calling a run, but I finished! :cool1:

For Valentine's Day, DH--who will now officially be called DOOD (pronounced "Dude" and an acronym for "Dear One of Debra," long story)--surprised me with a Screenies membership to our local filmmakers association: a punchcard for admission to 12 screenings or 6 screening for the two of us! This means we get to go see this year's Oscar nominations for live and animated shorts!

It also means we're eligible for a free popcorn or soft drink with each punch. popcorn:: Boo!!! I love movies and popcorn and it'll be really hard to let the offer go to waste. I'm trying to remind myself that it's better for the freebie to go waste than the food going to my waist, but it's hard. Movies & popcorn seem like such a natural combo.... I just need to stay strong, because there's one night of Oscar animated shorts, one night for the live action, and a whole day of Best Picture noms coming up. Can you tell we're a film-y family?

Thanks for the birthday wishes everyone! It's much appreciated! I had a pretty good day. I got to watch a scarey movie in my bed, I got a 4.5 mile run outside, and dh stopped and got me a diet cherry Coke this morning! Can't ask for more than that!

I stayed on my food plan too, which is always a cause to celebrate!:yay: I weighed yesterday and I am down almost 13 pounds. I am happy with that, but expecting the slow down really soon. I like the weight to come off fast, but it always slows down and then I get impatient. Oh well, it's making my running easier.:yay: :yay:

I have noticed a difference in my running the last two days. I am not so sluggish, and dragging. Maybe the weight loss??? Maybe it's that I got off the dreadmill and had two outside runs. I also have been enjoying my Garmin that I got for Christmas. Dh downloaded it to the computer after a delay, he had to update some things before it would work. My run yesterday burned almost 900 calories!!!! That makes me feel good.

Sorry this seems to be all about me!:headache: Sorry, I will have to read everything to see what everyone else is doing.

Beth

HI guys! I got in a 4 mile walk today and tomorrow is my run.

Debra--Great job on the C25K! I'm thinking I need to start again! I ran all, but 2 minutes of the 5K in Jan, which took me 46 minutes, but now I can barely run 5 min!!! I'm not a naturally runner by any means and I'm thinking I may just need to come to terms that I need to be a run/walker. I try to do the combo, but it's too distracting to really time it. I'm going to try to run most of it tomorrow so we'll see how we go.

I did get on the scale today and it was down... Yay! We'll see how the weigh-in goes on Tuesday for BL.

Movies and Popcorn...Yep...Gets me everytime! Tonight, DH and I saw Enchanted at the $2 movie. How cute!!! I had to get the Kid's combo so I could at least have some popcorn! I barely all day though. I was saving up! Gotta splurge sometimes! Yea, not a very good example tonight! ;)

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend!
Stacie

Stacie: Yay on the scale. I am so glad it moved for you...in the right direction.

Beth: Glad to hear you had a happy B-day!!

Debra: Thank you so much for the reinforcement. I have a lot of fitness/medical background and I am now working toward getting certified as a trainer/fitness nutritionist and your comments make me feel like I am doing the right thing. I enjoy helping people in a positive way. It helps my self-esteem immensely. See, I was a body builder and amateur model in my younger days and that gave me a really bad self image as far as my body. That and an ex that told me I was always fat (112 pounds and 13% body fat and I was fat :scared1: ). Thank you again for your confidence boost!!

I hope everyone had a great weekend and can continue on the right track. I watched the Game Plan with my kiddos last night and ate 4 Junior Mints and felt a little guilty but man were they good!!!!!

About the other topic.....I personally like Gracie's Gear. Her sports bras and tanks come complete with little pockets.....even a special ipod one. God has been very generous to me....(I said no thanks, but he didn't listen!)....so I need to wear a regular bra underneath. Not very comfortable, but better than the alternative.

Debra: you never cease to amaze me......Giving up popcorn at the movies is one thing, but saying no to FREE popcorn, is beyond my ability! That makes you truly my hero!

Congrats to everyone else on the weight loss and sticking with their plans.

Beth: Now you know I've got to ask this question--what scary movie did you watch? :3dglasses I'm so happy for you: a great birthday, a run outside, down 13 pounds, and feeling energized. It's everything you could hope for, plus a diet Cherry Coke! Good for you. You deserve it! :cool1:

Stacie: I think I may be more of a run/walker too, as I didn't have these issues for the Goofy training. But I promised myself to give full-out running a shot because...I don't know, I guess I just want to see if it's a mental thing, you know? And I admire you for saving up the calories. I tend to eat mini-meals all day or I get cranky, so I'm not good when it comes to allotting for splurges. I just splurge.

Lisa: First, I think your plans for certification are just PERFECT for you. You're a natural and your leadership of the Super Goofs just proves it. You're so supportive and generous of your time, your challenge rocks, and you're so knowledgeable. Second, for all that baggage from the past (even if it sounds like you have fascinating tales to tell) that makes you struggle with self-esteem. You deserve better. Third, your ex is a wanker.

Jeanne: Thanks for the heads-up on Gracie's Gear. I love the idea of little pockets. God was stingy with me, thank goodness, so I can cart more stuff up there and free up my shorts, where God was generous.

As for me: First, success at the movies! We saw the Oscar-nominated animated shorts last night--it's the shortest of the programs so it was easy to resist the popcorn temptation. I'm not sure how I'll hold up with the live action screenings or the best picture flicks, but I'm taking it one session at a time. Oh, and the animated shorts program was wonderful! I'd like to see Peter and the Wolf take the Oscar, DOOD is voting for Even Pigeons Go to Heaven, and we think the Academy might like I am the Walrus. But really, all the animated shorts deserved the nod, so we'd be happy with any of the five.

Second, I went to a new yoga class today. It strained my knee a bit but DOOD and I think we'll go back next week. It was challenging but not exhausting, and the instructor is a bit too chatty and hands-on (cold hands-on) for my taste, but the schedule is perfect, she moves us through at a good pace, and the other students in the class range in experience level so we don't feel intimidated. So, yea! I might have found the class to stick with while I try to get stronger and more flexible!
