Becoming Lean, Mean, Endurace Event Machines in 2008

Works done, dinner's in the oven, and I am dissing!!:goodvibes

Then, I will have to think about what my plan is for working out!......Probably the dreadmill again......

Beth

Well, I'm reevaluating my diet. I'm just not good with too many grains in my diet. I thought with the marathon training and all it would work itself out but it doesn't seem to be working. And I think some of it is mental.
I think eating grains make me want to eat more for some reason. I need to find something and stick to it.
So here is my "low" carb plan for training.
100g carbs (but these come from 1 serving fruit, 1 serving beans, the rest veggies NO GRAINS)
120g lean protein
60-70 g healthy fat (any added fat comes from olive oil)

That's around 1500 calories.
So we'll see how it works out.
Today was elliptical 45 mins.
Tomorrow I run again!

Hope everyone is having a great week!

Beth: Thanks a lot for the recipe; they sound really good. Soy flour, huh? I'm not following a low-carb diet, per se, but I don't mind low-carb foods. And ideally, I'd like to lessen my carb intake. And as long as the food is vegetarian, I'm pretty democratic in my tastes. I might try these next weekend.

Vic: It's good to hear you're on the mend. Your posts on the weekly thread sound like the Vic I'm used to reading/hearing from!

Jeanne: It's not that you're too lazy to bake, it's that you're too busy earning miles and minutes for Ohana!

Texa: I do think grains can increase one's hunger--it seems to happen to me at times. Wow, that's a lot of protein. How do you get that much in? (I'm a veggie, so I always struggle with protein.) Good work with the elliptical & have fun running tomorrow!

Bill: Haven't seen you hear in a couple of days. Hope you're doing well!

As for me: Nothing really new to report. I did 60 minutes of strength/flexibility training today, am on schedule for completing my water intake goal, and took a nice nap early this evening. My appetite has been dead for the past couple of days, so it's actually been a struggle to meet my nutritional goals. I'm hoping everything will be in better balance tomorrow, as I'm feeling pretty good right now--a little tired, but not exhausted.

I hope everyone has a good evening and even better tomorrow!

I don't do grains well, either. I think some bodies prefer grains, others vegetables and some of us are just plain carnivores! :simba: grrrrrrrr I think we have to take the nutrition advice and then tweek it to fit our own needs. I don't do much grain, I prefer the starchy vegetables instead. And no white food!

I am so glad to hear you are feeling better, Vic!

Your recipes sound great, Beth!

Bill, where are you?
I am doing so well I am amazing myself!

I'm still here *Connie*, just haven't been posting as not much to say, other than "I am the Procrastinator Man."

Actually I did pretty good through the weekend - including (relatively speaking) the Super Bowl party. Unfortunately, its been raining up here the past few days and my back has been back at it. (I do apologize to my grandparents now in my prayers for when I used to give them a hard time as a kid when they could predict the whether with their bones/joints. My kids think its pretty cool I can predict rain/snow with my arthritis/joints more accurately than those on TV. WISH I felt the same way.)

Good Morning!

How is everyone? I did half an hour on the bike last night, 7 miles. It felt pretty good for a change, so maybe I'm finally getting used to that bike seat.;)

Today is my rest day, so I'm going to do free weights. I'll be working on those after church tonight. My ds10 thinks Ash Wednesday should fall on the weekend, because it's very inconvenient and messing up his tv schedule...:rolleyes1 He only gets an hour a day on weekdays, and he'll miss it tonight. I think he'll live:goodvibes

Bill -- So glad to hear from you! I wish the rain would stop, too!

Connie -- I think I'm a sugarvore!:rotfl2:

Debra -- I don't know how you killed your appetite, but sign me up, that sounds like a good diet strategy to me!popcorn::

Texa -- Good luck with tweaking your diet. It's hard to find what works for each person. I'll let you know if I ever get there:sad2:

Vic -- Howdy! How are you feeling?:wizard:

Beth -- I admire you for doing the low carb. Your muffins do sound yummy!:goodvibes

Ok, everyone have an awesome Lean, Mean Day!

Beth - I loved low carb and the appetite suppresant that came with it! Mmmm real ranch dressing was one of the best perks. Unfortunately it doesn't work well with marathon training, for me anyway. I've actually come across people that do real well on it because their body is accustomed to being in fat burning mode instead of carb burning mode. Great job.

Connie - Don't you with what we liked to eat and what our bodies like to eat would get together and agree on something? I love grains, not just the taste but the convenience of throwing together a sandwhich or something, but I've gotten a bunch of those simply steamers and chicken breasts and eat those.

Dekaypee - I use fitday to figure out my calories and grams and it includes EVERYTHING in the count, including the protein count in say spinach or yams, so it adds up pretty easy!

TO everyone else. I hope whatever you're doing is working! Have a great day!

Oh man, I would love to eat soup and sandwiches at EVERY meal. But I can't. :sad2: Oh well, I am adapting as I go along and it really has made a huge diffference. Oddly enough, it took me forever to figure this out, if my DH hadn't been diagnosed with pre-diabetes, I might still be eating sandwiches, baked potatoes, pasta, and all those wonderful yummy things and wondering why it wasn't working very well!!! It's kinda nice to find someone else in the world who has a grain problem. Oh, and DH is beating the diabetes!

Tracey: Welcome & thanks for the analogy. I thought is was very humorous and appropriate--even if it did make me want to bake. I love butter, just not on my body parts. (There's a risque joke in there somewhere.) Anyway, I hope you join us Lean Meaners for support and motivation!

I know what you mean, mmmmm, butter! Also, talking about bodies and butter could lead to good humored teasing.:)
Thanks for the warm welcome from everyone. I'll be hanging around, you are all very motivating and inspirational. I've lost 35 pounds since July and have plateaued since the beginning of January. I'm up 1 and then down 1. I'm a WW girl and find success on that program. Beth's muffin recipe sounds awesome, so I'm going to adapt it to WW standards and give it a try. I have trouble getting in enough water. My 14 year old, who's a health nut, just quoted something he read about increasing your water intake to just 17 oz a day can increase your metabolism by 15%. WOW!!!! That could get me off this plateau. So my goals for the month are #1 More Water and #2 a 3lb loss (that's 12 sticks of butter:banana: ) Stay strong all!

Hi Tracey!

I'm originally from the Show Me State as well. I grew up in a suburb of St. Louis, my folks are from the bootheel, and I went to undergrad in Kirksville. Glad you decided to join us Lean Meaners!

Maria

Hey can I join in here also!!!! I didn't see this thread until now.

I have decided that since I will be doing my first full this year I can not do it weighting what I weight right now. So on the weightloss bandwagen I go again.

Hope is to weight 35 - 40 pds less then I do right now which is totally doable in the next 10 - 11 months right???
