Becoming a travel rep in Florida

I saw a programme on TV the other day about the team from Travelcity Direct out in Orlando and it got me thinking.

This is something that I've alway fancied doing and I'm toying with the idea of a career change ( I'm currently in radio ).

I feel I have the right skills for the job, and having been vaccationing in Florida ( the whole State ) for well over a decade, I have a feel for the place too.

I also have a lot of good friends there.

I'm not married, have few ties outside of my close family, and have always intended to move to the States at some point in the future anyway.

Does anybody have any experiences, contacts, pointers etc ?

I'd love to get some feedback on this.

That sounds wonderful and if i wasn't married i would probably say can i join you your best bet would probably be to contact Travelcity directly and speak to there Recruitment Dept, you could also look at other tour operators too. Have you cosidered applying to Disney also?

I have thought about working for Disney in the past, however I wouldn't want to know about the magic behind the magic for fear of it spoiling my enjoyment.

I think the repping route is a better route.

Perhaps someone who is just about to go to WDW could grab a rep for you and ask how to apply

I would imagine the best thing to do is get a good cv together with a covering letter saying why you think you would be a good rep and possibly include a photo, and send it to as many travel companies as you can - you never know if you impress them you may get an interview

From what I've seen of the repping business in Florida, it can be horribly cut-throat. The pay is pretty low and the hours are long, there are many hassles (oh, those British tourists, ) and there is a big turnover in staff out there from time to time. I really don't want to rain on your parade here, but I think you should be aware of the down-side before you get too set on it. Having said all that, it can also be a lot of fun, and the people who are good at it do tend to get on well. If you do go further down the road of looking at it seriously, drop me an email and I'll put you in touch with a couple of people over there who might be able to give you a few pointers.
