We are spending the first couple days of our trip at Legoland (staying in La Jolla), we have one day to hit beaches before checking into hotel at DL later in the day. Should we go to La Jolla area beaches, Carlsbad area beaches, or Newport? Any favorite things to do/see along those areas on our trek back to Anaheim? We have the one unplanned, day trying to figure out how best to spend it:)

Just to add, it's dh, myself, ds7 and dd5. The day I'm talking about is a Saturday, mid July.

Of the 3 I've only been to La Jolla and it's an amazing beach!! Maybe hit the beach in the morning and wear the kids out for the drive to Anaheim in the afternoon?

Thank you! Which part do you go to (never been, just looking on map). I've been reading about La Jolla cove???

My favorite beach in the SD area is Moonlight State Beach in Encinitas.

There is plenty of parking, which can be rare for some SD beaches. There is a concession stand with snacks and beach rentals - chairs, umbrellas, boogie boards, etc. And it has good bathroom facilities.

I would check the tide times and see if one of those times work for you. I went to the tide pools just south of Seal beach in LaJolla.. It was amazing.. So much fun.. Like a treasure hunt to find thigs...

When I say just south, I mean we parked our car at seal beach and walked five to ten minutes south.

La Jolla Shores is my favorite beach.

Second this rec. We lived in Encinitas for almost 20 years before moving to the OC and we still love Moonlight State Beach. BUT La Jolla Shores is good too, but gets really crowded during the summer, and parking can get tough.

I vote for Seal Beach, just north of Newport. It has a nice Main Street with lots of little shops and good restaurants, plus the beach has very low surf so the littles can enjoy the water. There is a small play structure on the beach itself as well and a Coldstone accross the street. Bathrooms are pretty clean and there are lots of lifeguards. We've been going there for years even though it's about a forty five minute drive from where we live. There is good parking, but you must get there by 11:00, 11:30 tops or the parking fills up.

Have fun!

When in La Jolla, there is a store called "The Cave". It is a store on top, then it has stairs that take you down to the beach underneath the store. A really neat thing for kids. Check it out.
