We are planning on visiting beaches on our own in both St. Martin and St. Thomas and would love to hear your opinions and experiences with these two islands. Which were you favorite beaches? Thanks for sharing...

We always do islands on our own and we are so glad we do! We found a great resort on Orient Beach on our last cruise in 2000 that we visited this year. It is Club Orient. Take a taxi there from the pier and just sit back and relax all day! Umbrellas and chairs are there to rent and there is a beach bar/restaurant for use as well. It is a clothing optional beach so be prepared for that. On St Thomas we went over to St John and explored. We took a water taxi from Red hook. Nice shopping area there. We just shopped a little on St Thomas but ended up back on the ship after only a few hours. We really don't care for the over populated beaches of St Thomas plus the shady locals give us the creeps. St Martin was by far friendlier, safer, and more relaxing as far as beaches go. Shopping is great in St Thomas though.

We're heading over to Sapphire Beach on our own. Orient Beach is beautiful, but with 2 teen and 2 pre-teen boys, it's not the best choice for us.

We visited Great Bay beach in the morning on St. Maarten. It was very convenient, a pretty nice beach (not the most beautiful overall, but not bad) and had the jet skis, chairs, umbrellas, drinks, etc. right there. $5 all day water taxi, kids free. We returned to the ship to shower, change, have lunch and went back to do some shopping. Very nice day overall.

In St. Thomas, we went to Coki Beach. We snorkeled all day. It was wonderful - one of the highlights of our trip.

I went to Coki beach on St Thomas and it was very nice but this time I want to try Megans Bay since I have heard many good things about that.
