Beaches & Cream and peanut allergy

Hi,

Has anyone with a nut allergy eaten at Beaches & Cream recently? We're staying at BCV for ths first time in April. I'd love to eat at Beaches & Cream, but my DD has a severe peanut/tree nut allergy. I know most places in WDW handle food allergies amazingly well, so I'm hoping it's doable.

I'd like an answer to this one too. My son has a severe nut allergy as well and we are staying at the YC and would also like to try the restaurant.

Let me preface by saying I don't know the answer to this question. I think part of the answer, though might lay in what exposure your child reacts to. WDW is really good about CC issues, but at Beaches and Cream I would worry about peanut dust as they have raw pieces of peanut moving around so much. I know the restaurant is pretty small, so that would be my concern, really. Someone will be along soon with a more definitive answer, I'm sure. Brenda Bennet in Food Services is probably a good resouce on this as well. I'll look for her phone number.

That trip report shows what a mom did for her severely allergic child. If a person has a reaction through touch or inhalation then extra steps are required. As show there the mother wipe down tables, covered the high chair and tables.

I have not been there but I agree with ireland_nicole on contacting WDW and the peanuts being everywhere. IF i was allergic from touching nuts then I would bring disinfectant towelets and have someone scrub the chair and table/counter clean including under the table/counter. I would also do like that mom and put down some sort of table covering also. I think the restaurant could make peanut free food if they wanted to. What concerns me is not the kitchen but the front area where you have nuts that are often served as a topping. Anyone who has eaten a sundae will know that nuts tend to fall off of sundaes.

We haven't tried Beaches & Cream with my 2 nut allergic kids. It seems too much of a risk. Even if I wanted to take the time to wipe everything down and cover up tables and chairs, I still wouldn't feel comfortable. Disinfecting wipes don't kill the proteins that cause the allergic reaction. The servers and food preparers are handling nutty treats all day long and may or may not be careful about properly washing their hands before preparing and serving food to those with allergies. There are more than enough safe dining options at Disney. To my family, B&C wasn't worth the risk.

My oldest dd (now 19) is also highly allergic to tree nuts/peanuts. We are BCV owners and regularly eat at Beaches and Cream. If you tell them you have a nut allergy, they will open a new container of ice cream and use a new scoop for you. They were also able to provide a detailed listing of ingredients for us. We have been vacationing and eating there since the DVC opened at BCV and it has never been issue for us. Of course, only you know your child and how sensitive they are. My daughter loves milk shakes which seem to be a good alternative to some of the fancier creations. With a frest carton of ice cream, a fresh scoop and a cleaned out milkshake mixer container we have never had an issue there. (We have at some of the chain restaurants though). Good Luck!!

Thank you for sharing your experience. We've eaten at the Plaza many times, which I imagine would be similar to Beaches n Cream (although I"m just guessing since I've never been there).
