Beaches and Cream Etiquette

Hi all,

I have my first trip since the shut down coming up next week with part of stay at beach club. One thing we were excited for was the walk up window at beaches and cream for some ice cream snacks. Once I read news here the walk up window was closed we decided to book a lunch reservation for dine in. However, we still mainly are interested in just the ice cream.

I was hoping to get some feedback on experiences here. Is it frowned upon to book table and just get ice cream or is that fairly common here? Could we sit down and just order ice cream to go so we don't use the table very long just for ice cream or does that violate any policy?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

You can definitely use your reservation to just order dessert. Sit and enjoy it! People do it all the time.

When we had our stay this past October (we’re local but stay a few days for Food and Wine), we had a late lunch/early supper and just had sundaes. No problem at all. However, we did leave a bit larger tip for 3 reasons:
1: We all ordered water, so bill was lower that if we’d ordered coffee/soft drink.
2: Pop eats very slowly, so it took awhile. Turnaround for the table took longer than it normally would.
3: They have fewer tables, so our waitress wasn’t getting as much in tips. (I think I came out to 30-35%).

We haven't been there since the remodel. Previously, there were many tables there just having ice cream.
I'd keep the ADR and enjoy your dessert.

Thank you all for feedback. I didn’t think would be an issue but feel better hearing it’s common. I imagine they lose lot of revenue from tables doing this so hopefully it motivates them to reopen the walk up window.

One time we had an ADR on our arrival night, and got stuck in massive flight delays that made us get in 7 hours after our expected arrival, and two hours after our ADR. I went to the restaurant to see if the would waive the no show fee, and to my surprise they asked if I still wanted to eat if they could seat me after a short wait and when I said yes, they had a table for us in under 10 minutes. It made no sense to me given we are a family of 5 this was before the expansion so the restaurant was tiny and was fully booked at 180+ days. And then I realized they probably had a table vacate that was just eating ice cream, and that opened up a spot.

So maybe your ice cream snack will be a walk-up diner's good fortune
