Are there any good beaches north of clearwater but not in the panhandle? We are wanting to stop on the way down to Kissimmee from IL and hunt for seashells Thanks!!!

don't think so - now south of clearwater - really south of Tampa - there is a great place and I can't think of the name. Sanibel Island - found it here

Honeymoon Island State Park is a nice beach for seashells, it is a natural beach, not a groomed one like Clearwater, etc. Cost is $8 per car (up to 8 people) to get in. It is north of Clearwater in Dunedin area.

Sanibel is a pretty good haul from Tampa/Clearwater. I've done day trips between the two, but it makes for a long day. Great place, though! Captiva is also a favorite of ours.

I have to really laugh when I see Sanibel and Captiva on here as someone's favorite beach.. I don't mean any disrespect by any means It is just that those and Ft. Myers Beach are my local beaches and I have never looked at them that way. Sanibel and Captiva are beautiful beaches, I am just not a beach lover. Ft. Myers Beach is for the younger (college) crowd. If you are ever down this way, Lovers Key is another nice peaceful beach to check out. It is just south of Ft. Myers Beach.
I know the question was any beaches north, sorry but I cannot help there, only know the ones south on the Gulf

for good shelling it is Sanibel, that is what it is known for.. I know she was looking for shells, not beautiful, but threw that in in the event anyone was down this way (SW FL) and wanted to know other beaches.

We went to Siesta Key the other day and WOW!!! Best beach I've been to except for the Caribbean

Oh. And also went to turtle beach and found TONS of shells!!!
