Beach umbrella as carry on?

We are flying home from Vero on SWA. Do they allow a beach umbrella as a carryon?

I would think it was too long. There are size likits that can vary by airline

Check the Southwest website for size limits, but I would bet that you can't

This would likely have to be checked and will be considered oversize as well (read this to mean - extra charge)

It's much too large. I have checked one and it was a bit oversized, but my airline (United) didn't charge, probably because I am a frequent flyer.
