I know this is a silly question, but I was wondering if I need to pack beach towels for my 7 day Western Caribbean cruise, or does the ship provide towels at each port? We took a Carnival cruise not long ago, and they supplied us with very nice beach towels with the ships logo everytime we went ashore.

If you're on an excursion they provide them at the "Meeting place" for the particular excursion prior to getting off of the ship. Otherwise you can go to the pool area, get towels and retunrn them when you get back on the ship.
Cheers,
Grumbo

Well, it's been almost a year since our last one, but at that time there was a huge supply of clean towels as you get off the ship (available to all passengers) and a container for dirty towels as you got back on the ship. Did this change?

The DCL pool towels and the ones they give out for excursions are about half the size of a regular beach towel. They have no logo, and are plain white. That is my pet peeve with DCL. I LOVE CARNIVAL'S TOWELS!!! and wish DCL would offer something similar to the pool/excursions.

We always bring our own or purchase a new one onboard (some really nice ones!!!) because we like to have the full size towel to dry off and lay on.

I saw that on Castaway Cay Trishy but didn't see it elsewhere. Then again I have been known to be in a daze at times so may have missed them :)

mmouse37 - Thanks for the answer. That is exactly what I wanted to know. I loved Carnival's towels too. Maybe I'll just have to purchase one on the DCL with their logo. I'm sure they must sell them on board. Then I can use it at all the ports. Thanks Again!!

I would guess that having dinky small towels to use is their way of getting you to buy larger ones. I got mine at Target... some really pretty velour type.

Anyone who has bought a towel on board recall about how much it was? I'm thinking it might be a fun souvenier, but I don't want to pay a fortune.

Hi mobetsy!

Anyone who has bought a towel on board recall about how much it was?

I think your question has been answered: anyone who has purchased a DCL towel on board ship is probably still recovering from sticker shock...

Thanks, MJ! Those look nice, and $22 isn't as bad as I thought it was going to be.

One more question (oh, you can really tell I'm sort of compulsive by now, can't you?): about what size are they? I'm really wondering about length; I am 68" and like a towel that's longer than me. This is early to be wondering about all this, but since there's a thread on the topic...

I was on the April 26th cruise and I got a smokin' good deal. At Castaway Cay they were clearing out one style of towel for $9.99!!!!

It was blue with "Castaway Cay" in big letters, with "Dive Team" underneath. Red and White lettering.

The DCL complimentary towels are only available when you get off the ship at castaway cay. The other ports, you must go up on deck and get them by the pool before you leave the ship, which I never remember to do. We needed one in St. Maarten, we were on Great Bay Beach, and my husband went to the stores right there behind the beach and bought a nice St. Maarten towel for $4. It was great for the trip, and we had a nice souvenir to boot!

The beach towels measure 58 x 31. They also carry the double sized towel which is huge!!!

Hey MJ --
I enjoyed the pics at the link you posted, but I just gotta ask -- were they all *your* shoes in the "shoes" picture??? LOL

I laughed when I saw that pic...the last Disney cruise I went on I packed one pair of shoes, one pair of sneakers and a pair of water shoes and I didn't even want to bring that many shoes LOL!!

I can say with a clear conscience that the shoes are not MINE....but my two DD's and their two friends. This is what happens when you put 4 teenage girls in a cabin together. Let's not even get into the clothes issue....

The shoes were a running joke all week. Their cabin steward actually thought they were storing shoes for other family members from different cabins!!!

The funny (or sad, depending on how you look at it) thing is that all their shoes were not even in the picture!!! They had more lined up on top of the couch and some in the closet. Every time you saw one of them they had a different pair on!!!

This year hubby said my DD's had to carry their own shoe bag...he wanted no part of it!!!

That is too funny!! I figured their must be teenage girls involved (two pairs of white flip-flops, two pairs of pink flip-flops). LOL

I am already having trouble with my DD who is 3 1/2!! She currently has more pairs of tennis shoes than i have had in the past 10 years! And don't get me started on her sandles, "tap shoes" (dress shoes), clogs, etc. I can't even imagine what it will be like in 10 years!!

DS on the other hand would live in his Spiderman tennis shoes if I let him -- no interest in other tennis shoes, definately does not want sandles, and will only wear water socks if he absolutely has to! (he even suggested that he could wear his black cleats/t-ball shoes for formal night so he didn't need dress shoes). And he is only 5!

Hey MJ - thanks for the pics! I gotta ask, are the mugs on the ship like the ones at WDW? It's been several years since I was at WDW, but when I was there, you could purchase a mug at the resort, and then have it refilled with a soft drink for a discount at the resort food court. Is that the same way these work on board?

The mugs are the same style and size as the Parks, but have the DCL logos on them.

Well, the way it worked a few months ago was that you would buy the mug onboard for $5 per day for the length of your cruise....7 day cruise was $35. You would bring your mug to any bar or beverage area and they would refill it. Now, since the virus scare they are doing a sticker program. You can still purchase unlimited soda package but they put a sticker on your KTTW card. I think you can also purchase the mug for an additional $5. The price is still $35 for the 7 day cruise (plus the mug if you want it as a souvie).

Now, different people are reporting that they needed their KTTW card to get the refill and some are saying they only needed to show the mug. I think it depends on what CM they happen to get. Anyway, that is what seems to be happening onboard these days. Either way they give you the refill in a plastic cup and if you have the mug you can pour it yourself into the mug.

We bought the mugs once. We don't drink that much soda to make it worth it anymore. They serve complimentary soda in all the dining rooms at all meals (except Topsiders).

There is also a 24 hour beverage center up on Deck 9 that has lemonade, ice tea, regular tea, coffee, hot cocoa, milk and filtered water.
