Beach Restaurant near LegoLand?

Hello - We are going to be spending a Friday at the San Diego Zoo, and then driving up to the LegoLand Hotel that evening to spend Saturday at LegoLand. I am thinking we will eat at the hotel Saturday night. Any recommendations where to eat Friday between the zoo and LL? I'd love to find a fun place on the beach closer to LegoLand. Mapquest shows heading over to the ocean would be out of the way, but we'd be willing to drive a little bit for someplace fun. It will be me, DH, DD8, and DS5. Thanks!

When we were there in 2010, we grabbed sandwiches from a little franchised place in Carlsbad and brought them over to the beach across the road. It was January, and we were almost the only people there, having a picnic in the sand. Haha! We are from freezing cold Alberta, so it didn't phase us. There were some actual cute little restaurants right by the ocean in Carlsbad, so maybe a little Google search will help you further.

We love Claim Jumper in Carlsbad just off the highway at the Legoland exit.

There is also a great little pizza place called Knockout pizza which is closer to the beach and downtown part of Carlsbad.

Pizza Port is a fun, local pizza and pub place. I think they've expanded to Carlsbad, but the original location (in Solana Beach) is a great place to hangout, and on your way from Downtown to Carlsbad.
