Labor Day weekend I want to take DD to the beach.

My choices are:
1.) Myrtle Beach, SC or
2.) Atlantic Beach, NC

I was thinking about VB or OC but I am using a free weekend night from Starwood and they have no beach hotels in those areas.

I'm willing to drive 8 hours or so each way. (I will drive down on Friday, beach Sat-Sun, drive home Monday.)

Any other suggestions?

South would be better. I'm not a fan of chilly ocean water.

Would the Myrtle Beach place be in north Myrtle or very south Myrtle? If so, I would chose that one. From what I remember of Atlantic Beach there wasn't a whole lot to do entertainment wise.

Ummm, I didn't narrow it down that far yet. lol I haven't been there since HS so I had no clue there was a north and south Myrtle. :confused3

Myrtle can get very crowded especially along Ocean Drive. I don't like to stay in that area because of the crowds but some people like it. :confused3 North Myrtle Beach is less neon as well as South Myrtle past the State Park.

I'm not really a beach person, but have you considered Hilton Head Island? We've been there several times and it's beautiful.

I've never been but my extended family really, really likes Atlantic Beach. Myrtle Beach is fun too so I don't think you can go wrong. Since it's a weekend, I guess I'd pick the closest one.

Atlantic Beach is lots of fun. Great restaurants, lots of shopping, a little Putt-Putt place with amusement rides, historis Fort Macon to explore, and an aquarium in the event of rain. Our favorite area is Fort Macon on the north end of the island, but Indian Beach and Salter Path in the middle are also beautiful. If you wanted to do something very different, you could go into Beaufort or Harker's Island, and take a private ferry to Cape Lookout National Seashore, or to see the wild horses. The private ferries usually cost about $15/person round trip. They will take you out to the island, and arrange a time/place to meet you and take you back.

As for driving time, Atlantic will be a couple hours closer than Myrtle.

If you haven't found a place to stay, there is a condo place called "A Place at the Beach" where you can rent an efficiency, or 1 or 2 bedroom. They are older, but beachfront, and they have a private walkway to the beach, indoor and outdoor pools, and a water slide that my kids loved.
