We are wanting to go to the beach for a day in sept while we are there. Any reccomendations as to which one and how far they are from disney? I was thinking Daytona..since theres alot to do there too

Daytona Beach is close, just off of I-4 East. However it is about an hour and half from WDW to the beach. It is about 60 miles from Sanford to WDW and Sanford is on the Volusia County (that's the county that DB is in) line. However, if you do DB you might want to consider driving down the beach a short ways, about 45 min. or so and tour Cape Canaveral. They have great tours!

We honestly thought Daytona Beach was very dirty. It was not the kind of beach to go play on for the day. If you just want to see the ocean, then I suppose it would be fine, just not to spend the day on.

It depends on what kind of beach you like.

I will pick a Gulf beach before an Atlantic Ocean beach. The Gulf beaches near Siesta Key have powdery white sand, clear blue water and very little surf. We did a day trip from Orlando- about two hour drive, a little longer with extra traffic.

I have never been to Daytona Beach, but I have been to Vero Beach. There was more of a surf and the water was not clear. The sand was beige.

i think maybe the gulf beaches would be better....whats the closest to disney?

As a child I lived in Edgewater, FL. Also in Volusia County. That is where Daytona Beach is. Personally, I don't much care for Daytona, and if I were going to the Atlantic side I would go to New Smyrna Beach, closer to you then Daytona anyway, less crowded, a small town, etc. It's a pretty nice beach.

Now if you want pretty white sand, blue waters, etc, I would go to the Gulf side. One of my friends lives close to Tampa and we go to Clearwater beach. It is gorgeous and there are some things to do there also (at least I think so, we just always play at the beach.) I'm thinking it will probably be around 1 1/2 to 2 hours from WDW.

If I had my choice, I would go to Clearwater.

And btw, be sure you have money for the toll roads in FL.
