Beach Picnic Ideas

So, I am determined to actually go to the beach that is less than a mile from us this year. Normally we don't take the time to go to the beach unless we are on vacation. Friday night I want to surprise my DH and my DD7 and DS2 with a beach picnic. I am really stuck for ideas of what kind of food to have. I work until 5pm so either I can pick up take out somewhere or make stuff ahead of time but probably won't have time to make something that night.

Thanks in advance for all your ideas! You've never let me down before. ;)

I live a block from the beach and we don't go nearly enough. I really like pressed sandwiches that you leave in the fridge all day. I find they are easy to eat without getting sandy. Fruit salad as a side and some cookies or brownies. I have also brought a big antipasto pasta salad. That is pretty easy to eat too. I usually serve it in those big cups. Stops stuff from blowing out of it.

How about crackers & bread, cold cuts, cheese, olives, pickles, chips and cookies. You can take those little packets of mayo and mustard if you want.

For drinks, you could take juice boxes.

I would Take garbage bags. Use one for garbage, one for dirty dishes, one for ??? Just be sure you throw away the right one.

Have fun!

That sounds like alot of fun!

You could do Chinese take-out. Easy to transport, easy to dispose of, and you can get a variety of dishes.

It doesn't have to be postcard perfect...with the checkered cloth and the picnic hamper. Just bring things your family likes to eat that don't have to be piping hot and that you can eat easily on your lap or with your fingers. Sandwiches, take out pizza or KFC, or whatever.

Yummy!!!! Thank you everyone I am so hungry now. I did get some juice boxes and grapes. Now I just have to decide b/w all these yummy ideas. Thanks again everyone!

I'd probably stop at Subway or a local deli and pick up sandwiches, bags of chips and sodas.

That's a great idea. You could even get them to cut the sandwiches into 3 or 4 pieces and everybody could share different types of "mini" sandwiches.

I wish we lived closed to a beach!

it isnt rocket science. whatever you like from fastfood restaurants bring. hope this helps.

Just wanted to pop in and say Hi! We also live on the Cape but unlike you spend almost all our non-working/school hours at various beaches from Ptown to Scusset. Have a great time:thumbsup2

Hi there...

Too funny....it is either Scusset or Sagamore that we are going to. I really wish we took advantage more of the beaches. That is my resolution this year. It seems we drive to Ocean City, NJ or fly to FL to use the beaches when we have some of the most beautiful beaches very close. Always seems too busy on the weekends with cleaning, food shopping, sports practices etc. Not this year!!!!

If I make food I usually bring fruit, veges, cheese, crackers. No one really wants a "meal" so these are good snack type foods. If we were going to stop and buy something we would probably stop at KFC.
