Hi,

We are scheduled to arrive 2 days before our Disney cruise. I am really torn as to where to stay--Disneyland area or a beach area. At the moment, I have two rooms reserved at theHyatt- Huntington Beach. I got a really great rate of $125 per night.

We've never been to Disneyland and kind of feel that we will be missing out. However, I know that it is hot at that time of year (August) and will have my elderly Mom with me. I wanted someplace where she could just relax and enjoy the scenary. Also traveling will by my two DDs 2 and 10 years old. My 10 year old will be happy as long as there is a pool :). The rest of the travelers are leaving everything up to me--they don't care where we stay.

Please help me make up my mind!!

Thank you.

Mary

Well I'm quite partial to DL so I say DL but the beach is nice and Huntington is a pretty area

You could compromise and do 1 day of each-

but I still say DL :)

I say you should spend at least one day at Disneyland. Look at it this way - you've never been there before and have the perfect opportunity, your kids will LOVE IT, and why spend two days lounging on a beach or around the pool at your hotel when that's what you're going to be doing on the cruise anyway.

Go for Disneyland! :earboy2: :earsboy: :earsgirl:

Your daughter will love the pool at the Hyatt Huntington Beach, they have an underwater sound system.

Any chance you can leave your Mom at the Hyatt and take your girls to Disneyland one day?

If you would like to see pictures of the Hyatt HB let me know.

Here's another vote for seeing Disneyland. It's the 50th anniversary after all, will only happen once in your lifetime.

Even though it will be hot, you can break up the heat by eating at indoor restaurants, shopping, or some of the attractions happen indoors. If you want to go with full Disney themeing you could stay at one of the one property hotels and if it got to be a bit too much for your mom, she could always go back and relax at the resort.

There are several off-property places within walking distance with nice pools too. I love looking at the ocean but you will have that opportunity all week at the beach.

You could also start researching hotels in the DL area and make ressies there too than as you get closer to your date cancel the one that seems less appealing at the time - still about 10 months away -- don't let the DL hotel you might want be full!

DL all the way. The beach water in California is not as warm as Florida which is why my beach dollars always go to Florida. Also, Disneyland in August weather wise will not be like Florida. I have been to Florida (not Orlando however) in August twice and it is brutal. Have been to DL in August and while hot in the day there was no humidity so the shade was pleasant. Also those nice pleasant evenings. Give Disneyland a try its wonderful!

You really can do BOTH, afterall, you cannot possibly spend more than 3 hours on the beach. In the summer, DL's hours are 8:00am-12:00 midnight. You can go to DL, take a break in between the day (like during the day when it's the hottest), go back to the hotel, enjoy the pool, then head back to DL. If you think it's too rushed then get the 2 day pass.

I am also looking to stay in Huntington Beach next August and I am looking for a hotel. How did you get such a great rate? I would love to know. Thank you.

I want to thank everyone for their replies. I booked two rooms at the HOJO just in case we decide to stay in that area. At least I know I will have the option and will decide as we get closer.

Disneybeachbum,

I got the rate a few months ago on their website. They had what is called a spa courtyard special. I've looked since then and noticed that is had gone up to $205. Hope that helps.

If you're going on the West Coast cruise like I am all those ports are beach ports aren't they? You'll have your fill of the beach and the pools on the ship. I would say go to Disneyland. Of course though the beach is not to me what it is to other people because I'm surrounded by them.
