If we wanted to spend one of our vacation days on a trip to the beach which beach would you recommend for a family with four pre-teens?

We usually go to the gulf and visit Honeymoon Island, it is a state park and very nice beach. This weekend we went over to Jetty Park at Cape Canaveral for the day, it was great! It is a straight shot from Disney on 528, only took about 45 minutes door to door. We watched the cruise ships from the beach, they have a big pier, and a pavilion with a restaurant. You can google Jetty Park beach, they have directions and info:)

Even though is a longer drive (2 hours vs. 1 hour to the east coast) I would choose the Clearwater Beach (Honeymoon Island) area. There are so many things to do and the beaches are absolutely beautiful. We have been to the east coast, but it just isn't the same!
Lots to do in the Clearwater Beach area: pirate cruises, dolphin watching, deep sea fishing, the Pier, Caladesi Island up the coast, shopping & great restaurants.

We love the Canaveral National Seashore. We like that the beaches there are very natural, uncrowded, and quiet. Tons of animals to see on the drive in! Lots of times we've had the place to our selves. We make a day of going to the beach and then having dinner at Dixie Crossroads in Titusville. Yummy shrimp!! It's a tradition for us.

Actually the difference in distance to each coast depends on where you stay. Last trip we stayed at Paradise Palms and the trip to Cocoa Beach was an hour and 20 minutes and Clearwater was an hour and 30 minutes. I love Clearwater, also St Pete Beach. Honeymoon Island is also good.

If you want boogie boarding/waves go to Cocoa. The gulf beaches have warmer water, white sugar sand a very little wave action. But there are dolphin tours galore and overall we prefer them.

We really enjoyed our day at Cocoa Beach last summer. The beach was clean and quiet, the waves were awesome, and Ron Jons was a hit with our teen DS.

At Lori Wilson Park, there is no parking fee, and washrooms/change facilities right off the parking lot.

Can anyone recommend a dolphin tour at Clearwater Beach? This is one of our top things to do this summer.:cool1:
