We're going to Orlando in the middle of October and I was wondering if anyone has some suggestions for a family friendly beach. Is Cocoa beach a good beach, as it would be the closest to our hotel... and what is it like in October? Warm enough to get in? or just a good place for an afternoon walk? (the kids have never been to the ocean..... hey... we live in Colorado!) If the weather permits.... what would be best.... the drive to Clearwater?....

Any help is appreciated!

not sure if you are looking for the "ocean" experience, or if you're just looking for a relaxing afternoon playing on the sand...

if an afternoon on a beach (rather than "at the ocean") is what you are looking for, have you considered just hanging out at one of the resorts on property? the poly beach is our favorite...we get food at captain cook's (the food court which i think has awesome food!), grownup drinks near the pool, play on the sand, then watch the fireworks over cinderella castle and the electric water pageant...it is a GREAT relaxing evening! grand floridian and the ft. wilderness campground also have nice, small beaches (the campground also has a small playground area near the beach). beach club/yatch club also have some beautiful sandy spots to play.

none of these beaches are on lakes that you can swim in, but we do let the kids get buckets of water for sand castles...

have fun.

I really like Cocoa Beach, it's a lot closer than Clearwater and the waves are amazing, as it is the Atlantic Ocean. We have only gone in April and July when the water temp. was great, so I'm not sure what October would be like. Check out this website which describes the different public beaches you can go to:

Here is a picture of Cocoa Beach from July.

I love Clearwater too (this is the beach my husband proposed to me on!) We went in April and it was freezing. The water is very calm, and it is supposed to be a lot clearer. But when we went, it was after a storm so it was a little dirty. Clearwater is nice because there are some restuaraunts right on the beach.

I think Cocoa Beach would be a fun experience for kids because of the cool waves, it just seems like more of an "ocean experience"! Hope that helps!!

Thanks.... I was worried as I haven't read about anyone going to Cocoa Beach for a "beach day"... so I thought it may be a bad idea. I think we'll go for the full on beach experience and stick to Cocoa, then next trip head over to Clearwater! Thanks!
