When we stayed there I upgraded to a room facing the boardwalk so that it overlooked the lake. If you have a map and can look at the resort, we stayed on the left side, 2nd building from the end. This afforded us a great view of the lake and BW and we could see a little bit of the fireworks if i remember correctly. If you are outside you definetly can. 
Seeing the Boardwalk at night is really pretty. The only thing about a pool view is that you might be facing the other side of the resort since its kind of i a u shape almost. Its a great place to stay though. The main pool alone is awesome! Good luck on your trip!!
