Beach Club Check In Question

We're staying at BC for the first time in December. I used the BAT code and got a decent rate. I've seen posts here about asking for room upgrades and water views and full balconies. Here's my questions - having used the code to book my room, the reservation states that I have a standard room. Should I ask for and upgrade or a specific view when I check in or should I just be happy to have gotten a decent rate? I don't want to puch it, but I don't want to miss out on anything either! I'm not good at asking for free stuff, so I need some advice from the pros!

Thanks!

If they're not full when you arrive you could smile and ask in a nice way if there are any upgrades available and that you don't mind waiting if there is. That seems fine to me.

We were there last month. I was going to ask if any upgrades were available, but I chickened out! When we got to our room, I walked in to find that they upgraded us to a courtyard view. It was nice, but to be honest, I think I only looked out the window a couple of times and never got the opportunity to use the balcony because we were out and about so much. The front desk staff is really nice, so ask if you feel comfortable.

Be sure to request a full balcony (The BC has some step out balconies) and a Lake view or Boardwalk View - even tho it says "water view" you could get a less than full lake view.

is asking for a full balcony considered an upgrade if I've booked a standard room? If I just ask if any upgrades are available, what (besides "NO") are the possibilities? Can you tell I don't know anything??

Thanks!

The full balcony isn't an upgrade. The rooms (whether or not they are Standard or Water/Pool view rooms) either have a patio (first floor), standing-room balcony (you walk out a door and there is room for a person to stand), or a full-balcony. With a Standard Room, your next upgrade would be a Water/Pool view room. It all depends on the CM at check-in and the room availability. It is always worth a try! Good luck! :)
