I'm not sure where to post this so I'll put it here and I'm sure a mod will move it. (sorry!) First time ever driving to Disney from NY since I was a kid. We are staying over night near Savannah GA and then to WDW in the morning. Where would be the best spot to stop at the beach and see the ocean for 30 mins to an hour or so? It will be Saturday May 14th. Not too off course, decent area, maybe pick up some shells and put our feet in. Thanks for suggestions.

Tybee Island is just east of Savannah, although it's more crowded than usual for this time of year because Baywatch is filming there. St. Simons Island and Jekyll Island are both near Brunswick. Jekyll is my favorite beach but you have to pay $6 to get on the island. Jekyll and St. Simons are probably about 20-30 miles east of I-95.

Amelia Island FL is just over the FL border about 15 miles east off 95.

It's about 3 hours to Orlando after that assuming no traffic issues.

Baywatch???

You could cut over at Crescent Beach then drive down past Marineland and cut back to 95 at Palm Coast. It's pretty old school A1A with lots of good parking opportunities to enjoy the relatively unspoiled beach or Matanzas River.

This would be my choice.

So looking the map looks like that would be a pretty scenic drive along the ocean? More than one opportunities for beach. Would you drive it all the way down to Daytona? How much extra drive time would this make it to WDW (minus stopping time)?

If you want to see the beach while driving and also making some forward progress toward Disney, it is a good option.

I personally wouldn't drive all the way down to Daytona, but I am not as familiar with that stretch of AIA. Hopefully, someone else can help.

I am not sure exactly how much time just going over to Crescent Beach down to Palm Coast and back to I-95 would add. I guess 30 minutes to an hour. You could try both routes in MapQuest if you need a better estimate.

Yeah if anyone knows the best route for a good balance of good beach views/opportunity and making decent time that would be great!

I have made the trip to/from St. Augustine, just north of Crescent Beach many times. We normally use A1A between St. Augustine and Daytona and then use I-4 between Daytona and Orlando. It might take up a bit of time, but it is normally a very enjoyable trip. If for some reason we have time constraints or decide we do not want to do A1A for the entire route, we just drive what we want and then cut over to I-95 as needed.
